After playing the piano for 3 years,my ears became more sensitive towards the quality of music which led me to Classical...Pop and such simply do not suit my taste that much now even though I still listen to it occasionally(Like once a month or none at all) I feel that when talking about the quality of music then Alkan would have been the topic of interest.Alkan wrote works which ranged from brilliant to rather second rate works.Glimpses of his quality works can be found in his Grande Sonata "Les Quatre Ages" and in much more refined form, his Concerto,Symphony and Overture for Solo Piano. His Overture is much more shadowed by its bigger peers but stands easily against most pieces.Yet he was ignored too until these recent years. I feel that analysis can only do so much in identifying quality of works.
