It may be that your shampoo is the culprit. Shampoos that are typically available in the stores can leave residue in the hair that builds up over time. Go to a beauty supply and have them look at your hair and suggest what product would be suitable for your hair type. You want to remove the buildup from the old shampoo without stripping it or drying it out. You may want to consider using a hot oil treatment on your hair to get the shine back, once you have really cleaned your hair with a quality product. The shine in your hair can also be tied to lack of proper nutrition, medications you are taking, and even lack of sleep or excessive stress, not to mention plain old overprocessing with chemicals, hair dryers, etc. You need to look at these other things if just changing shampoos and getting a hot oil treatment doesn't work for you.

Work in mayonnaise (as if it were a conditioner) and wrap with saran wrap for 10 minutes. Rinse it out with beer (ale not stout). If you're not old enough to buy beer or if your mom and dad won't let you, you can use lemon rice water. If you have dark hair you can also rinse with cold coffee (it'll add a little color but increase the shine too). Your hair will smell pretty bad until you wash it so I recommend doing it on a weekend so you can wait longer to wash it. Also, take folic acid - it makes your nails and hair stronger.

I would recomend Pantene Ice Shine. If you still can't get shine into your hair, ask the person who cuts your hair for advice.

You know what you should do? Shower using cold/cool water, it'll make it shinier.
