I share an apartment with a cat owner. Her cats keep leaving hair all over my nice suede chairs. How do I keep them away from that area without having the roomie notice that I've done something?

Hey oneSICKchick, the reason I don't want the roomie to know is because she thinks her cats have more rights than I do in the apt. and she's pretty anal about it. It's my place, and all the furniture is mine, she should respect the others living there and clean the chairs at least since it's HER cats that got them dirty. So no, I'm not in the wrong. I just am trying to not cause any more problems with her. Now stick to the question. Drama drama...

Get a water bottle spritzer and whenever you catch them on the chairs, spritz them with water without them seeing where it comes from. Soon, they will associate those chairs with water (cats hate water) and they will stay off them. Also you can buy something called Bitter Apple Spray, spray lightly on the chairs and that will keep them off. You won't smell it but I would recommend trying it on a part not seen first to make sure it wont stain or anything. The water will work very well if you used consistently anyway.

Your roommate will know, but it is your furniture, not hers, so you can do whatever you want with it....

1 - Bubble wrap - place bubble wrap on the seats of the chairs. When the cat jumps on it & it pops, the cat will associate that chair with a "bad" noise & avoid it.

2 - Double-sided tape - cover the seat of the chair in double-sided tape. Cats don't like things sticking to them. 1 jump on the chair & that should be it for the cat. And, when you peel the tape off it should pull most of the hair that was already there off of the chair.

They actually make a spray just for that purpose. Go to your local pet store and look in the cat section. I am not sure of the name but there is a spray that you spray the pieces of furniture you do not want the cat to be on.

It really does work and doesn't have a strong smell so roomie should not notice!

Good luck!!!

Cats like to lay on something soft or something that they notice as different (which explains why they sit on a piece of paper when they find it in the center of the floor...). Take a folded towel or folded lap blanket and put that on the chair seat or on the couch. Cats will sit on that because it's more appealing to them and it'll keep their hair off the rest of the chair.

keep a water pistal handy very time the cat goes where you don't want it to go give it a quick squirt don't let the cat see you do it. the cat will soon associate the chair with getting wet and stop jumping on it , its harmless and wont hurt or distress the cat at all.

well you could ask your roomate to keep her cats off your chairs but otherwise I'd say get a squirtgun...Just make sure you don't get the chair wet....You basically need to get the cat afraid of the chairs....

get a new roommate .if you don't want the cat owner to know what you've done then your a sneak and probably want to do something to the cats you know to be wrong, since you don't want it known.

I have heard that cats don't like aluminum foil. So if you put aluminum foil on a spot, they won't go on there.

I would get a spray bottle and spray them with water.

tin foil..yes tacky but keeps them off because they are scared of it. once they learn to stay off you can take it off and they normally dont get back up there
