Soo I just got my cat back a few days ago....and I have NEVER ever seen any ashes at all human or animal. I guess I just expected them to be more ashy...? Instead they are like ashes but have some like little rock pieces in them. Is this normal...?

Yes, you don't get 'ashes', these are the bone fragments that are left after the incineration is done on the body. Calling them ashes isn't accurate but I think people have always done that because it sounds better than 'bone'. But it's a surprise to actually see what it is that's left, when you've always heard it refered to as ashes, I know.

What you got was the part that's left after the high heat burns off everything that was there. It's very normal.

The "rock" pieces you are seeing are most likely recognizable chips of very small dry bone. After an animal is cremated, only the dry bone fragments are left. Then the bones are pulverized into what most people refer to as ashes.

If your cat was not placed in a tray in the crematorium, but rather directly on the refractory brick material in the crematorium, then it's slightly possible that bits of the refractory brick got mixed with the bones as the bones were swept out of the retort. The refractory brick gets wear and tear from the high heat and has to be replaced every so many years.
