Of course! Dogs are known for being utterly loyal and unconditionally loving to their people. No matter what you do to your dog, he will forgive you and still love and follow you. All 3 of my dogs follow me all around the house. I rarely have a moment when I'm not by myself, unless the dogs are in the yard. And by the way, shock collars don't really work all that well. If a dog wants something bad enough, like to be upstairs with you in your case, the brief little shock isn't going to stop them from doing what they want.

Yeah...I know what you mean...I walk around the house and I have 3 dogs following me everywhere...often times I trip on them and they are always under my feet. I think it means that they look up to you as the leader of the house....love you because you are the one who feeds them and they want to be near you. Some breeds are more "clingy" than others....You don't happen to have a cocker spaniel, do you?hehe...my cockers have always done this and I think it's a "cocker thing".

1) There may be no greater love than a dog's love for its person.
2) Stop going where your dog (or you) can get hurt.
3) He' s feeling like you are his entire world and he ONLY wants to be with you. He lives for you, b/c that is what dogs do.
4) Please get rid of the damn "shocker collar". Clearly it's not working, and it's CRUEL! Try one on for a day, see how you dig it...Would you do this to your girlfriend or wife? Pretty nice. Take a defenseless animal who can't talk and won't likely complain, put an electric shock collar on it. Go upstairs away from him, when he only wants to be with you, and then ask stupid as* questions like this: "What could he possibly be feeling...???" DUH. Maybe that his owner's a cruel and abusive, out-of-touch, hopeless idiot?

Most definitely!!! My 3 boys (Pomeranians) love me unconditionally ~ no matter what kind of day I have had, I can come home and they are always glad to see me. If I have had a bad day; within minutes ~ they manage to cheer me up.
They don't ask anything from me but lots of love, and affection ~ and that is exactly what they get.
My 3 follow me where ever I go ~ personally I would'nt have it any other way I really love em...

Yes,our dogs love us.Why do you want to punish him for following you? For him to accept getting shocked just so he can be with you shows how much he loves you. Please take that collar off of him and put a baby gate up instead.

This means that he sees u as its pack leader.... that u are the alpha (the one in charge)...... so its a natural instinct that he wants to follow you and have u by his side because he feels safe.
Note: If a small breed dog... this tends to be normal since they are lap dogs and requiere of a little more attention.

if the dog has a shock collar you are using it improperly because the unwanted behavior has to be treated consistently for it to stop.
the dog just wants to be with you and should not be punished for that. Get a baby gate....
