It is probably impacted anal glands. Bacteria actually develope in in conjunction with the feces that gets trapped between the anus and the inner rectum. Most likely it is slightly infected.

When anal glands become impacted, it smells no matter what you do until they are expelled.
It isn't an emergency, but it is uncomfortable for the dog, and you have to smell it. So just get into the vet as soon as you can.
Most vets won't charge you for an office visit if you just call and say all you need is the anal glands expressed.

Your dog may have an infection in his anal glands. Check his foods and make sure that his food is the only thing in the dish, and his water is fresh every day. Also feeding him human foods wont be very smart right now. He might just have diarrhea. Take him into see the vet as soon as possible.

I have a friend who's little dog had to have surgery just yesterday for an impacted and infected anal gland,so you should take the dog to the vet before it gets too bad.It might just need expressing and some antibiotics. It's quite common.

yes it could be his anal gland. You can bring him to your vet and he can express it for you. It may need regular expressing. Professional groomers can express anal glands for you...otherwise, your vet should do it. Never try to do it yourself (not that you would want to because it can be pretty icky) Only allow someone who is experienced in expressing anal glands.

this totally makes me sick, but you sound like you need help. my mom is a dog trainer, and i cant stand even hearing that name anal gland. i saw a lot when i was little. yuuuuck. she owuld do that for the grooming shop. anyways, all you do is pull its tail up, like hard, like holding the dog up, and then you take your thumb and pointer finger and squeeze really hard and really fast. dont put your head close at all. ewww. this is so gross to me. lol but, that can kill your dog, you know how ppl use the bathroom to get the bad toxins out of our body? well that backs up in dogs, and you have to do that once a month. you are supposed to anyway, if it smells really bad, then its pretty serious, i would get to squeezing if i were you... well no i probably wouldnt lol good luck. and you better give me ten points for this. lol im literally sick now. seriously
