Can EMTs have facial hair?

In general yes, But the role of EMT has been evolving with the advent of WMD threats and such I would want the tightest seal of my OBA. Just make sure it doesn't interfere with your safety or your performance.

Simulations will be your best test, I never had one but i can imagine it would be some kind of an obstruction.

Plus that chin strap would chafe, wouldn't it.

It all has to do with your companies policy and culture.

Just don't go looking like Osama Bin Laden or anything

Generally EMTs are not permitted to have facial hair that comes between the sealing surface of the respirator and the face or interferes with the valve function of the respirator. Others may require EMT to have completely clean face and well trimmed beard. It depends on the setting.

Yes they can, i dispatch for the ems agency in my area and most of the guys have some kind of facial hair.. i just think it cant get out of control or cause a problem with pt care...hope this helps

if they are able, then yes....if they are allowed too(for the job)...not sure.
