If you're looking for something similar to Black Hawk Down but with a happier ending try the Battle Field Diaries: Kiowa Down. You can buy for cheap on the net. It's the true story of a Kiowa that went down in Iraq back in Sept. 2004. The pilots were injured after their helicopter was shot down and a group of Scout/Snipers was the closest element to the pilots, so they went to retrieve the pilots and the helicopter. Except when they got there the Iraqi's were waiting for them...big time. They got on a loud speaker and cell phones and TONS of Iraqi's started surrounding their Platoon and the helicopter. They called for back up and a Company was called out to go and help them. But, their lead vehicle got hit and the entire convoy got stranded down a narrow road and couldn't move. So, for several hours these 18 guys were defending the helicopter and the injured pilots and waiting for reinforcements. Between the Company of soldiers that got called to help and were under attack and the Platoon of Soldiers keeping the helicopter and the pilots safe they ended up killing over 100 Iraqi insurgents...we suffered no KIA's.

What is the thumbs down for? She asked for something like Black Hawk Down, this is a similar incident; only a better outcome. Nothing in the post was untrue; and it was a good documentary.

In 1978 a group of US Army soldiers were trimming a couple trees in the Korean DMZ when they were jumped by North Korean soldiers. The North Koreans hacked the Americans to death using axes. Not many people know about this.

A few days later we went back into the DMZ, in force, and dynamited the trees that were blocking our view.

You have a few to choose from.

1983 - The invasion of Grenada,
1988-1989 -- Panama,
1991 -- Iraq,
1992-1995 -- Somalia,
1993-1994 -- Bosnia,
1994 -- Haiti,
1994 -- Macedonia,
the list goes on and on.
You can find a fairly complete list of US military activity overseas since the 1700's, along with a brief synopsis of each, at http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/crs/rl30172.htm . Good luck with your story.
