I have asked this questions months ago, but I am still having the same problem. I'm 15, and I just have the hardest time falling asleep. I will go to bed and it takes me hours to fall asleep. I am really worried for when school starts because I have such a tight schedule and will be going to bed later than I want to. I have to wake up at 5:30 everyday, and after school I have sports and things that take me to 9:00pm to start homework for 3 honors classes. I also have to shower and by the time I can go to bed it will be around 11:00 or 12:00, and I still have to fall asleep which is like impossible. By the time I actually fall asleep will be around 1:00 or 2:00, then wake up at 5:30. I get exercise, I am in 2 sports. I don't know why I can't sleep. I also don't drink pop or anything to keep me up. I have had this problem for as long as I can remember, just recently it is a problem.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Try reading a really boring book or try to free up some of your time. I have the same problem as you and sometimes it helps to count backwards from 100

Try yoga. Take a class if you can. It sounds like you may have some anxiety, and anything that can induce deep relaxation--at any time of the day--will help you with concentration and also with getting to sleep at night.

Same time to bed and waking every single day will help too. If you stay up way late on weekends and wake up much later too, that will cause problems. Once school starts, it's healthiest not to get your sleep/wake times off by more than an hour.

You're good to avoid the pop. Avoid all caffeine. Eat a lot of veggies. I have insomnia too, and sometimes it's worse than others, but it's always kind of anxiety related for me. I meditate, and that helps too. Good luck!

Oh... and a chamomile/mint tea like Sleepytime at bed can be very helpful!

I also have a hard time falling asleep.
If you have the t.v . on turn it off....
sounds good that you don't drink pop but ,remember caffeine is in a lot of other foods. (chocolate,tea... sugar can keep you up)
Listen to white noise or relaxation CDs.
Avoid before-bed snacks, particularly grains and sugars.
Sleep in complete darkness or as close as possible.
Wear socks to bed. THIS ONE HELPED ME
Journaling... This one also helped me, I journaled and then I had nothing to worry about so i could sleep better.
Write down your worries rather than fret about them while you're trying to sleep.
Take a hot bath, shower or sauna before bed.
Exercise often helps you sleep, but avoid exercising shortly before you go to bed.

Here are a few ideas hope this helps...if all else fails call your doctor.....

WOW! you are overloaded. you are only 15 and are living with the stress of a mid level executive. when do you have time for fun and relaxation? it is no wonder you can't sleep. you need to redesign your schedule and allow for some down time. i can't believe your parents allow you to live like this. please drop some of your activities and try to live a less stressful life. you will sleep better and feel better about life.
