If you were legally married (with license and everything) in HI, you do not need a license in VA because it isn't really a wedding from a legal standpoint... you're already married. Skip the paperwork in VA, it is a waste of time.

You only get one marriage license. If you were legally married in Hawaii, then you are married.

You do not get another license in Virginia. The Virginia ceremony is considered a renewal of your vows. No paperwork is necessary.

It does NOT matter if anyone knows of the Hawaii wedding or not. The Hawaii wedding is where you were legally married.

Your wedding license in Hawaii is all you need. Your wedding would be properly called a vow-renewal. No one has to know of the first date. Let your officiate know, they will preform your second wedding as if it is the first. Filling a new license will confuse the picture, might even cause you some legal problems. If you have already gotten the second license, go ahead and sign it as you would in any first ceremony. Just do not file it. Hey, you are not alone in this problem! Have a lovely wedding! Did you get your marriage license in Hawaii? If you did, you need to file it there in order to have that ceremony legal. If you did not, then the ceremony in Hawaii is NOT legal as you did not file in the state you married in.

So, if you filed in Hawaii, you are already married and cannot file in Virginia.

If you didn't file in Hawaii, then the Hawaii ceremony is not legal and your legal wedding is in Virginia.

You can't file both.

It was legal the first day you did it. You need to file it in the state you did it in. If you got married in Hawaii then that is where you need to file it. You can still have a wedding ceremony in Virginia, but there is no need to file paperwork there.

No, your legal marriage took place in HI. If that's where you were married, then whoever performed it signed it and sent it off. It might be fraudulent to file a second one, since the first one is valid all over the world. You will have no need or reason to file one in VA. If a couple married in HI moves to VA, they are still considered legally married. Like I got married in NC, and am considered legally married in ND, so no need to file for a ND marriage license. What you will have in VA will just be a ceremony. While this isn't required, you might ought to tell your family you are married due to should something happen to you tomorrow, they'll find out quite by surprise that you are married, and they'll find out by the state, not you.

Being that it is already legal in Hawaii you DO NOT need to file another license at all .All you need is 1 license and thats it . Basically what you are doing is having the ceremony. congrats.

If your wedding licence has been signed. Then take it and file in the court house.

When I got married we got our licence at one spot, had to get our blood test at another spot and was married in a third spot. All we had to do was just mail the paperwork in for filing after it was filled out.

Also why not tell people your married. If nothing else just put an announcement in the paper if you dont want to tell them in person.

Doesn't matter if you say I do a million times, the license you get at the court house is what makes it legal
