Us military wives have a way of taking care of ourselves. In the unfortunate event of a soldier's death, the spouse is informed by the Chaplain and usually someone in the rear detachment (didn't deploy). The people in the soldier's battalion/company usually help to "take care" of the spouse and children, if there are any. The spouse typically meets with a number of military officials for the process of making arrangements for the deceased, insurance issues, and all the other things that happen when one dies.
Spouses usually take care of each other and themselves in this situation. As sad as it seems, most of us military spouses have thought about what it would be like when our soldier dies. It is surreal, and it is something we have to be prepared for, so we figure it out.

Many of those who help are the other families of the members who served with the deceased. In addition, there are three military-based charities who are available for assistance as well. They are Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Army Emergency Relief and Air Force Aid Society.
BTW, those are the three charities who provided immediate relief to the families of service members killed and injured in the attack on the Pentagon of September 11, 2001. The tragedy is that they received no mention in the list of charities trumpeted by the media and celebrities after those attacks.

The military takes care of them. The SGLI insurance is $400,000 which goes to the family. The military also provides counseling and the other wives have groups for emotional support.

They have fund programs set up (kind of like they did for 9/11 families) and all soldiers have an insurance policy automatically when they join which pays immediately upon their death. And most have death benefits that the military pays in addition to retirement accounts etc.

probably only their families
You will see so many people with a magnet or sticker that says support our troops, but they don't support our troops, words mean nothing, someone made a profit off that magnet, none of that money goes to help military families.
If anyone wants to support our troops, then you get over to someones house and help that wife and kid, you mow the lawn, you bring a bag of groceries, you help them with their needs, don't just buy a sticker for $1 and think you are supporting our troops.
Words mean nothing, action is what counts.
