Being 5'9 your BMI that is your body mass index is about 29. You want to bring that down to about 25 to be healthy...
You should talk to your mom first or another adult you trust and can talk to.. has your mom talked to your pediatrician? Is your mom talll too?
There are things you can do to help yourself. have your mom request a thryroid test (blood test) from your doctor, this will let them know how you are metabolising food if it is low then you will be put on thyroid medicine that will help you shed a few pounds but mostly to regulate your thyroid.
In the mean time, do what you can to "Tone tone tone" your body.
You can't do anything drastic because you are still going through your growing years. (mother nature)
I am sure you have PE in school, so take some of those things you are forced to do at school and do them at home. Do simple exersizes in between commercials of your favorite show. Before you know it you will have exersized 20 minutes and not even known it. During the first commercial do situps, then lunges then maybe life your backpack a few times. My son's backpack weighs 20 lbs so I am sure your does too. Put it on and go for a walk. Listen to your ipod, talk on the phone or get a friend to walk with you. I am twice your age and even today, I put on my backpack and grabbed my cel phone and talked on the phone while I went for a 20 min walk. You know you are gong to talk on the phone anyway so why not get some exersize out of it!
Ask your mom to buy you an exersize ball, they are sold at target or walmart (about $15-20) Sit and balence on it while you do homework, read or talk on the phone, it will strengthen your stomache muscles.
Get a fitness magazine like Shape. You can't do the hard core stuff but you should be able to do most of the basics.
Try out for sports, the best for girls is soccer, basketball and swimming. even if your not the star of the team you will still have to practice everyday and that means exersize and coordination.
What do you eat? What do you drink? its hard but give up the soda! Drink water, crystal light or diet soda.
Eat lunch meat rolled up in a low carb tortilla for lunch, lots of fruit! The ballpark fat free turkey hot dogs are good for lunch. Go shopping with your mom and put food you'll eat that is healthy in the cart.
Before school starts ask your mom to get you lean cuisine meals to eat for dinner, make an extra vegtable or have soup too. The pizza ones and pannini ones are good.
Believe me, if you do these things you will see some results. No, you won't look like Paris Hilton thin but you will look good!

Weight Watchers has great teen programs.
I've lost about 140 lbs and am still going. I wish I had started watching my weight seriously when I was 12 - being healthy and fit is SO important. It's not about being "fat" -- who cares? I have never had any trouble attracting men, etc, even when I weighed 320 lbs. However, it's a lot harder to lose than it is to just NOT put it on in the first place. You're doing the right thing -- don't do any "negative thinking" like "I'm so fat that's why I have to lose weight" because that just leads to... cookies... Start thinking of yourself as a healthy, fit person. Get up in the morning and think, "I am a healthy, fit person. " Before you eat anything, think, "Is this what a healthy, fit person would do/eat?" Exercise helps -- not just for your physique, but for your attitude. If your muscles feel "worked out" you'll feel sporty -- and you won't reach for chips.
Try Pilates, walk or run in intervals for 30 minutes a day, and just cut your calorie consumption by 100 calories a day. That's it. I wish I could tell you that there's a miracle cure, but like Oprah says, (I'm paraphrasing) "If there was somethin' out there to make me lose weight fast, I'd have bought it. I GOT the money." I've tried every diet out there. Nothing works and everything works... because the basic principle of EVERY diet is "eat less, move more."
You can do this. Change your way of thinking. Eat well, move lots, and DRESS well so that you don't feel "fat". I teach junior high and there's nothing worse than low-cut jeans and tiny shirts on girls carrying a little bit of weight. There are tons of great clothes out there.
And remember, you're not FAT. I have lots of skinny friends who are 5'9 and weigh about 165 lbs. Don't think you have to be 100 lbs to be thin. Use inches, not the scale.
Good luck!!!

First, think of things you like to do. Find some type of cardio that fits into what you enjoy. Simple, if you enjoy it, you're more likely to do it. If you enjoy dancing, get a few dance workout videos. If you enjoy sports, pick different activities that will help you improve for your favorite sports.
Also, you should do either weight or resistance training before you do your cardio, so that when you do your cardio yo are burning fat!
As for eating, when you are eating make sure you aren't doing anything else. Eat slowly and put your fork down in between each bite. This might seem tedious and annoying, but eating slowly allows your body to catch up to you and thus, you get full quicker and easier.
Another suggestion is to find someone, a friend, family member, etc. who will participate in your cardio/weight training to help pass the time!
Good Luck and stick with it!!!

it's a good thing you are making an effort to lose the excess weight. Just be aware, that it is going to take a long time to lose it. It takes three times as long to lose the weight as it did to put it on. You have to accept that you need to change your lifestyle, not just your diet, not just your exercise...your entire life needs to change, and that change has to be forever. If you continue in a dedicated manner to control what you eat, to get out of the house and be active, to make healthy choices and get adequate sleep, by the time you are 15 or 16, you will have the figure you want. By then the changes you have made will stick. And you won't have to worry about weight for the rest of your life. Hang in there, you can make your life what you want it to be, but it is a lifetime you are talking about here, not just a few months of eating less.

Wow, you're very TALL for your age. Im 14 and im only 5'2". You can do more than just jog. I personally have the DDR game for ps2 and it's a substitute for cardio(running). Okay, here's the simple plan. DON'T SNACK and STOP EATING WHEN YOU ARE FULL. EAT SLOWLY AND CHEW THROUGHLY.
I hope this helps

Jog for about 30 minutes a day. If possible, try to do crunches too if you want to flatten your stomach.
