Your stepmom is confused. If you are not married, you are not a matron. You are a bridesmaid.
Privileges? This sounds like they are tricking you into feeling extra-special.

She probably wants to honor both of you and have you as special people in her wedding. However, the matron of honor is usually a title for a married woman, so it seems a little strange to have that as your title.

I would suggest to your stepmom to either have two maids of honor or a maid of honor and a guest of honor bridesmaid.

Or - make up your own title. Weddings should be unique and you and your stepmom can call yourself whatever best recognizes your role.

A Matron of Honor is someone who is married. If you are married then the title is appropriate, if you are not then you are a Maid of Honor.

The maid of honor is unmarried, the matron of honor is married. Unless you are married, you would be a maid of honor or a bridesmaid.

There is only ONE position - a married woman would be a Matron of Honour, and a single woman would be a Maid of Honour.

I like making up your own title. As matron is inappropriate, why not something like Stepdaughter Extraordinaire or Head Bridesmaid or something like that.
