Candles - light, focal point for meditation.
Water - we are all born from water.
Alms/money - to care for less fortunate (alms could be food also i.a.w. dictionary).

A holy spot, (isn't a staple) - but every religious ritual has one at least.

staple a,

applied to the sermon, holds the pages together in a nice neat pile.

staple b

applied to the altar cloth, Holds it in place on a windy day, or when the fan is on.

Staple c,

applied to the funny hat, holds hat on head of priest, keeping him from being embarassed from falling hat/removing tupee syndrome.

The pagan tree ritual is used by a lot and if not they do something eles on that week of Dec, I don't get it ,,,what makes that week so holy ,its clearly not jesus's b-day

edit: Water for it is the substance of life, you cannot live without it.

Incense for it transforms from the material (hard) world to the spiritual world (air)

And candles because the flame is symbolic of the Divine spark of life.
