Yes, Man is inherently sinful and does not merit heaven by himself through any of his works, especially the ability to "accept" Christ. No, his eyes have to be opened by the Lord, and once they are opened, they see and are happy about being able to see. There is no transaction involved, except for God's grace being given.

Yes, they must be chosen by God in this manner, and this means that predestination is love from a God that would have been fully righteous in leaving everyone in their sins.

The Bible teaches a mix of free will and God's sovereignty. Some would argue that free will is an illusion. You're free to choose but once you do you discover God knew all along and has been planning on you making that choice. Fortunately God can keep it straight.

We have an obligation to respond to the gospel with faith. God picks it up from there and does the work of saving us and keeping us saved. He also says that those who are saved are predestined to be saved. So there's a balance of both.

Not really. But it is true that God chooses, it's just that according to what I know, the fact that we are saved by grace through faith is separate in ideology, or concept to God choosing who gets to be a responder to His choosing.

Did that sound right?

Let me try it again. God does choose who He wants to respond to Him.

But the concept is different than what the Bible says about being saved by faith through grace.

They are two separate issues; both are true, yet one does not mean the other as I understand it.

God does not "favor" anyone over another. His grace is exended to all. Those who received it will be better off than those that don't. Works don't mean a thing. Works without grace are dead. If you receive his grace and do a lot of good works, things will be better for you. If your heart is hard, they won't help you. Of course, all this depends on the status of your heart. A whole other discussion...

God chooses us we do not chose him.

We make the choice to serve him,we are saved by his grace.

What is unmerited favor?

God gave us his word. We have undeserved grace and mercy.

God gives every man hope. Romans 11.

So do we continue in sin? No! So that grace will abound. Romans 6.

To be saved by God's GRACE means that He saves us not by anything we do but by His own grace and mercy.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Some "more" than others for we HAVE the EXPERIENCE the Lord requires of us in having been DEMONS at one time. (used to be a satanist)Remember Saul ? Read about how he went around persecuting the disciples of Jesus and HE was "chosen." Read my "name" on this "forum ?" I too was a "devil" in organized crime dealing drugs and beating peoples brains in at one time not to mention being an ex marine who served during Vietnam. GRACE ? I never ASKED for it and for 30 years refused to do all God asked of me in "death." (had a bad motorcycle accident in 1975) Then I got MS. The rest is history as I decided to give the Lord a shot and everything began to change for the better and still keeps getting BETTER........

If God is choosing who is saved, doesn’t that undermine our free will to chose and believe in Christ? The Bible says that we have the free will choice – all we have to do is believe in Jesus Christ and we will be saved (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10). The Bible never describes God rejecting anyone who believes in Him or turning away anyone who was seeking Him (Deuteronomy 4:29). Somehow, in the mystery of God, predestination works hand in hand with a person being drawn by God (John 6:44) and believing unto salvation (Romans 1:16). God predestines who will be saved, and we must choose Christ in order to be saved. Both facts are equally true. Romans 11:33 proclaims, “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out!”

You have to remember there is no time where God is concerned. He knows the future. He knew ever single action we would take and thought we would think even before he began creating the Earth on the first day. I believe we are predestined, but I also believe that our loving God predestined us by our own choices before we ever had the chance to make them.

I think we start with the basics of Christianity, what Jesus said. He condensed the who thing in it's purest form and not scatter pieces. We are saved because plants grow not by our own works do they grow. On the other hand we have to pick the fruit. And now we even have to till the ground. Think big and keep it simple.
