My Son Is A US MARINE. Currently he is with the Fox Company 2/5 "The Black Hearts" and is presently in Ramadi Iraq.
Like you he had good grades (3.25 gpa) and was active in football and wrestling in high school. I can tell you that he loves what he is doing and I to am very proud of him. I know that everyday he lives with danger but I also know that he is with a group of men that will look out for each other first and themselves last. I also know that he is one of the best-trained soldiers on the field.
He has been such an inspiration to his sisters that our oldest just enlisted to the Corp, so soon we will have two Marines.
The choice is yours but I have never met a person who made the choice regret being a part of one of the most elite units in the US Military.
PS Remember that Marines do a lot more then fight. They were the first at ground zero on 9/11, first go into New Orleans after Katrina, and they were the first to help after the mudslides in the Philippines

Tell your family and friends your not crazy and then join up anyway. Once you finish bootcamp and they see you and how you've changed for the better they'll all come around. If you feel it's the right thing for you to do then go for it. I was in the same position as far as family and friends are concerned. Everyone thought I was nuts for joining the Marines. Except for one of my Cousins, he joined up shortly after I did. He's still in and I'm going to be enlisting into the Navy shortly to go to Corpsman school. You'll learn all about them at bootcamp. Anyway I'm getting away from the point. I made the decision to join and it was a popular decision to a lot of the family but even though they didn't like it they still supported me and I'm guessing you family will do the same, because at the end of the day you have to do what is right for you and nobody else can make that decision for you. I hope some of this will help you. Take care and Semper Fi

My first suggestion to you is finish your high school work and graduate.
You say you have a 3.0 GPA and play sports. That is really very good. Not sure why you think you can't get into college.
There are many schools that will accept you with that level of GPA.
Once you finish High School, if you are really serious about joining the USMC and you can pass the physical exam go for it. Just know that the choice to do that is no small thing.
Good luck no matter what choice you make.

Marines is always a good choice. I have great respect for them.
Why can't you get into college with a 3.0 GPA? You are already smarter than the left-wing professors.

do some research and find the branch of service that can offer you a job that you want to do.l Because honestly , and this is coming from a Marine who married another Marine, after boot camp, its just a job. And nobody want to work a job they hate.
Oh and dont worry about your family and parents. You live your life how you want!
Good luck.

Sounds like you are physically fit enough to handle it. If you are mentally prepared to commit to (at least) 4 years of your life, go for it. I did, and don't regret it. It's tough, challenging, frustraiting, boring, fun and exciting. For the most part, it's like a normal job (that you can't quit) that they expect and if they have to, force you to perform. There will be times you hate it, but at the same time, have the pride of knowing you are doing something many others are too afraid to even try. Good luck

talk to a recruiter from every branch first. Then choose. Of course they'll lie to you.. so you can go to http://www.about.com and it gives you a lot of information on whatever you need. Or you can visit the branch sites. I joined the army because it was best for me. Gave me a little bit of a challenge but wasnt too laid back. Especially after being on an AF base.. they're really laid back compared to the Army. So it just depends on you and the job you want.

If you have your mind set on joining up, then do it. Don't be wishy-washy, just figure it out once and for all. Also, figure out why you want to join the Marines. There is so much you can get out of it, everything that will set you up to suceed in life. Email me if you have any questions.

Decide what you want to do with your life, and check what MOS will give you the training, and which service has that MOS available. Then get the training for your future from the military regardless of branch.

Crazy? No.
However, you had better be sincere. The Corps doesn't babysit, mollycoddle or hold your hand.
If you decide the Marines is your goal, check out Marines.com or leatherneck.com.
Good luck
