ok, here's the question, please respond how you think, not how your religion thinks, or anyone pressures you to think:
ok, first off, according to the bible, god sent adam and eve to live in the garden of eden, a paradise, with a temptation, and even though he created free will, and bestowed it upon them, the temptation was too great, they gave in, and somehow, because of that one mistake, god has decided it right to damn us to this hellish earth, ridden with death, corruption and poverty. you call that all knowing and forgiving? damning the entire human race, simply because of one mistake, and then 'claiming' that he will forgive us for our sins, while he tempts us to sin. then, if we've lived a full life, sinned our hearts out, not asked for forgiveness, we get to go to hell, a place where we're ripped apart by demons, experience the pain of death, for eternity. if we live a full life, free from sin, we go to heaven, where we worship his greatness for all eternity... huh?

oh, and a note, I grew up with a baptist pastor as a grandfather. a man who I truly respect and love with all my heart. this is my personal oppinion after having learned the ins and outs of the bible. not relegious bias due to anger over an overly sheltered relegious childhood.

a few things, he MADE us imperfect, and punishes us for that imperfection. it doesn't get any simpler than that. according to the religion, we're damned in the womb, and theres nothing we can do about it, we're created with the point of worshiping our creator. personally, think i'd rather be smited by thor than that be the truth :D
(no, I don't believe in thor, or support believing in him, just being humorous :P)

I respect everyone's opinion, great habit, if you dont, you should. and I DEFINITELY respect my grandfather. he's an amazingly bright person, honest, loyal, trusted, a great teacher, and an even better friend. I don't try to make anyone change their mind, but I also don't enjoy blind relegious zealots. My grandfather is a great man, who deserves quite alot better than he has gotten. never complains. I admire his "keep on truckin" attitude and love him for teaching me life lessons that will never be forgotten.

"You don't respect your grandfather at all. He spent his life devoted to a loving God whom you call an ahole. You may not understand the Bible, nor who God is, but you should respect and honor your grandfather." ok, I may not quite "admire" what he believes, but I do respect his beliefs, and he DID teach me alot, for which I'm quite greatful. we still get along well, and agree to disagree, and respect those differences. just because our beliefs are different, does not mean we don't respect each other.

"How I think? I think you were ranting and not asking a question. At least I do not think you were looking for an answer either. What you did was step up on a soapbox and under the pretense of a "thinker's Question" proposed your personal form of blasphemey. That is fine by me in that you can think what you want, not my place to tell you what to think. Just stop trying to pass off that...stuff as cogent thought."
stopped reading at the use of the word "blasphemey", which in my book, tends to mean, you speak bad about my relegion, don't believe what I do, so therefore, you are evil. pure cynical nonsence, you, sir have lost my respect in every way imaginable. heres to you, you angry little gnome.

LOL. Excellent question, maxturbo211. One I've pondered on for a long time. Here's my take on it.
This is a story in the Bible. The Bible was written by men to gain control of men. If you were a priest or shaman or witchdoctor or whatever other spiritual/religious leader of a tribe of superstitious people, this is a great way to make them rely on you.
Another thing I've noticed is the difference between the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New. The former smites, the latter forgives. Hmmmm.
I suggest you go to YouTube and search on "Conversations With God Book 1". I believe anyone asking this type of question will really enjoy it. Listen to them all.
Bless your heart.
Be at peace and teach only love.

Hi, I did read it all and I think you answer yourself. Also I do not wish to offend anyone but do people honestly deeply believe the position of the planets etc. have a real bearing on a person? With 8 billion people and only 12 signs does this not sound a bit urealistic. It would mean that the 2 billion born under certain signs are more intelligent than the other 6 billion, hardly likely? Anyway everyone knows it is the Sagittarians who have the most of all the desirable and better human qualities.

The story of Adam and Eve has powerfully touched people for thousands of years, yet today there are widely differing opinions about the truth of the story. Some people insist that we must accept it as being quite literally true. Others see it as a myth with no truth and no value in it. Still others see the story as being symbolic, containing a deeper meaning
For those who look to Bible to interpret itself, the question of how to view Adam and Eve is not just a matter of personal opinion. Regardless of whether we personally prefer a literal or symbolic interpretation, we should be guided by the way the Bible tells us to understand this story
The Literal Story
The Spiritual Meaning
Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Delight
God makes our minds like a beautiful garden growing in wisdom.
God made Adam and Eve in His image
The Lord makes us like Him spiritually.
Eve was formed from Adam’s rib
The Church comes from the Lord.
Adam says, "She is my bone and my flesh"
The Church is the Body of the Lord
Eve was the mother of all living
The Church is the Mother of all who are spiritually alive
The serpent deceived Eve
Evil (the Devil) deceives the church
As a result, Eve had pain in childbirth.
As a result, the church has difficulty with spiritual rebirth.
The serpent is finally overcome
Evil is finally conquered.

The thing you're missing here is the "greatness" of the temptation.
The Garden (whether literal or metaphorical) was FILLED with good things to eat. PLENTY of food. So it's not like Adam & Eve were starving and the temptation was based on a real physical need. They could have filled up on fruit and veggies and whatever else was available to them every day, all day and neatly avoided the fruit of the one lone tree that God singled out.
Basically, He made it really, really, REALLY easy to succeed. He gave them everything so that they didn't need the fruit, but they wanted it anyway and they gave into their wants.
Should that "one little mistake" damn everyone to hell? Well, if you think about it, it's not "one little mistake." It's the core reasoning behind every major crime in the world - operating on want instead of need. That's why people murder, go to war, abuse children, steal, lie, cheat, sleep with other people's spouses, etc.
And God still makes it easy for us -- He sent Christ to pay the penalty for all our sins, so we have not just a little loophole but a whole darn cavern of forgiveness, just for the asking.
It's not hard to get to heaven. It's hard to want to live a life worthy of heaven though.

No theist will ever acknowledge the obvious mindgame psychology of a deity. They will rationalize all day. And of course, much of the rationalization will be dependent upon a BOOK written by HUMANS.
All the defending acrobatics are inherently DERIVATIVE of the one fundamental issue they can never be reasoned with over though, and that is faith. So we will spend eternity caught up in the foreground minutiae because we are forever at an impasse on the big picture in the background.

Until a person finds out who they really are, none of the questions posted or feelings expressed will be understood!
A person must start at the bottom and work their way up.
Discovering what your true self represents will allow these questions and feelings to be understood!
Religion will not explain these things.
Self-realization will answer all these items in your question.

Well thought out, I completely agree with you. I have Christian relatives who do completely thoughtless, horrible things to other family members. Accroding to Christianity, they will be forgiven, while other more ethically behaved agnostics in my family will not. I have a huge problem with this.

It's a set up, so that no one can escape needing Christianity.
A God would not do that, would not need to do that, but an earthly religious organization might just say that he would...
