why do i say this

because if god is all powerful then he is a monster because he has the power to stop evil but choses not to do so

on the other hand if god is all merciful that means he wants to stop evil but cant do it because he is not powerful. That makes god a kind person

i would chose a god who has no power at all but who is kind rather than chose a all powerful god who is wicked

what will you chose?

Free will is the ultimate expression of Love. Too bad everyone throughout history would not love God back in the same way. For God to stop free will before the appointed time would be against his loving nature.

God is not willing that any should bear eternal punishment, but if you refuse the free gift of salvation though his Son Jesus the Christ (the only way that preserves his Power, Love, and Holiness), he will grant you the only option left...complete restricted banishment from his presence.

God is all powerful, all loving and all holy. He will not abandon who he is to conform to confused thinking. He has already given the life of his only begotten Son. What kind of mind doesn't think that that ultimate sacrifice to give you a free pass for eternity isn't good enough?

As an ex-muslim, you may not understand this and likely may not have heard it before. Get a Bible and read it. Any language is OK, you don't have to read the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek to understand.

God is all that is and he is Just and merciful.
His power is beyond comprehension. He has the power to stop war but does not because he does not interfere in our lessons and especially our free will. He does not want Robots.
One of the greatest Powers of God is his Love and his son came to show it by his words and obedient example.
Being merciful means that he is quick to forgive our transgressions. He has mercy on those who are believers and those also who repent and turn to him in need. He does answer prayer but will not interfer with our doing or free will choice.
Sorry to hear you are agnostic. You were not taught to be.
Your choice to turn from God and there is still time to turn back but no one know when the hour comes. Will you give up your place in Paradise because you chose to. What will you have if scripture is true and you gave up on God.

Everything that has come into existence is a result of the thoughts of God. These thoughts take on a life of their own. Humans are a great example of this. He is all powerful, but he wants to reconcile all that is good which has sprung from his thoughts.

He is merciful because he has incarnated to this world in human form, and he fully understands the perils that exist here. God isn't wicked, but he does have a divine plan and what occurs is for the fruition of this unwavering plan.

God IS both all-loving, all-merciful, and all-powerful.

How can I say this? Well...

He said, "For behold, this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."

One thing God does not or cannot do is to take away our agency. This is because of His goal to help us grow - a person cannot grow without choice, et cetera.

Evil is simply th absense of good, just as darkness is the absence of light. So, the only way to get rid of darkness, because it doesn't actually exist, is to fill the darkness with light. God IS getting rid of evil by providing light and truth. We must keep an eternal perspective.

As we learn and grow here on Earth, we are removing the evil from within us because darkness cannot exist where ther is light. To both achieve His goal of helping us to grow and His goal of getting rid of all evil, this is what He must do (what we are in the process of experiencing right now). This is only possible through Christ's Atonement because of The Law of Justice. God is merciful because He allows us to make mistakes without forcing the punishment upon us as The Law of Justice requires (because He sent His Son) yet He allows the good half of the Law of Justice (that good must be rewarded) to have its way. That is real mercy.

When it comes down to it, though, we just can't totally comprehend the way a perfect being acts just like we can't picture higher dimensions according to String Theory in physics. We can, however, come to understand the basics behind it by learning line upon line - starting with arithmatic and moving to calculus over time.

We can understand even more as we develop a relatioship with the Lord through obedience. We are to have faith IN God not OF God. He will let us know He exists and loves us, et cetera but we have to put ourselves in proper order to do so.

The problem is that the idea of a relationship with God has become corrupted over time. He is our Father in Heaven. We are children of God.

I just realized I'm droning on and on so I'll end now. I hope this helped a little and if you have anymore questions, feel free to e-mail me! :o)

The answer to this reveals the depth of love that God has for us.

If we postulate that God is omnipotent, then we remove the possibility of free will from humanity. Yet we also postulate free will.

God, in his omnipotence, has forsaken this omnipotence to allow us free will. This is the depth of his love for us, that he gave up his own omnipotence in order that we be free to choose as we will.

As a father, I often see my children make mistakes. Sometimes these mistakes hurt them. As a loving father, I want to stop them, to protect them, and to prevent them from hurting themselves. As a responsible father, I know that my telling them why they should do what I suggest and preventing them from making a choice will teach them nothing. They will not learn the lesson as well as if they make the mistake themselves and see the consequences. Then the lesson will stick. My job is basically to see that they live through it without irrepairable damage. These small lessons they learn today will prevent them from making much more costly mistakes when I am not there to protect them.

I have the power to protect them. Am I evil if I choose not to exercise it?

Both my children are now the strongest, most mature, most self-assured members of their classes.

I am not a B'Hai, but I like one of their teachings: that Everything in creation contains one or more attributes of God. Only man contains all of the attributes of God together. This is what drove Satan to revolt, that we received more of the attributes of God than the angels did.

It really is simple to understand as long as your eyes and mind are open...............
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Joh 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Joh 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Joh 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Peace be with you

What good is a powerless god?
Why did you set forth two gods of which neither represents the true God of creation. You create two nonsence gods in order the attack THE GOD?
I would choose neither of the worthless gods you have created
The God of creation had the power to restore fallen man rather than destroy him.
The God of creation chose to send His own Son in your place in order to accomplish this.
The mercy of the Living God is why we are still alive right now and not already destroyed.

God is indeed both All powerful AND All merciful simultaneously.

He doesn't stop evil because he did not create it.

When he created man (and woman), he gave us free will to choose right from wrong. We make the choice to stop evil, but we continue in sin because "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12).

We must follow the word of God because in his power we are
""Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." Romans 8:37).

I CHOOSE GOD...what will you chose?

so some say

compared to a mountain, I'd say we modern folks worship a thunder/volcano god which at times provides blessings and food and at other times provides Vesuvius and other catastrophies of disaster which is easier to think of as a god than a mountain

worse, dianetics crap and scientology says aliens live in same mountain we just can't go into the magma to prove it so it's true

You sure make a lot of assumptions about God. He must be personal, self-aware, interested in human affairs, must be all-powerful, must be all-benevolent, etc. You just ruled out the definition of God employed by a significant percentage of theists world-wide. And even if we assume your definition of God, we are assuming that finite minds are capable of analyzing the motives of Deity. If God is even as intellectually superior to us as we are to chimpanzees, it is overly presumptuous.
