You may be eligible for medicaid. Work with the hospital billing department as they have access the filling out the necessary paperwork with the government. Otherwise, if you are denied, set up a payment plan, so long as it is reasonable for your level of income and make monthly payments.
It is hearing about situations like yours that makes me wonder why the government has yet to institute a national health plan. Makes me want to denounce my citizenship to the U.S. and sneak through the borders because illegal immigrants are covered as well as immigrants who claim they can't afford to make health care payments.
Good luck to you.

First you can call the accountant division of the hospital and say you are willing to pay, and tell them you can only pay 25. dollars monthly. If they accept ask them to send you a form accepting this. They will try to get more then you're willing to pay, hold your ground. Write the hospital a letter send it registered mail if you have too because they do not accept your offer. Start a record, write down all calls person you speak to so on. Shoe that you care, but cannot pay more then you are offering. If they place you in collections continue to do the same process. Bankruptcy is your last step,,,try to avoid it. Good Luck,

When the bill arrives, call and speak with someone in the billing department of the hospital. they should work with you on creating a payment plan. I hope everything works out.

Some states have limits on the minimum you can pay each month on medial bills. Talk to them, and find out what the monthly minimum would be and never miss a payment. It maybe less than you think.

Fudge it. They can't come after you for medical purposes. If you live in homestead proteced state such as FL then they can't touch your house.
The best thing you can do is get on a payment plan with the hospital and pay what you can. Doctors and hospitals have insurance for this kind of things, so if you can't pay they can claim it from their insurance pool.

Talk to the hospital. Sometimes they will reduce the bill drastically for people who don't have insurance and can't afford the bill.
