I'm looking into buying an elliptical machine, and I was wondering what type of elliptical machine you would recommend. If you could tell me the pros and cons of it, or just why you like it that'd be great. Thanks in advance!

Consumer Reports recommends the Schwinn 418 and lists it as a CR Best Buy at $1000. Pro Form 700S is also considered to be great for the money and will cost you about $500.

Things to look for:
stride length (some are small which won't work for a normal height person)
adjustable incline
get one with arm motion (handles that move so they are being exercised also)
noise level (you probably won't like something really noisy)
adjustable resistance so you continue to get a workout when the current level becomes too easy
safety features
a good warranty

Before buying, also visit several retailers and try the equipment for at least 10 minutes. It will tell you if you prefer one brand over another.

I work out at a local church life center and they have the Schwinn 418. It is a wonderful machine! I have to put a little effort into getting started (I am on the small side) but once I have it going, the momentum is easy for me to maintain. It is also very quiet. I can't say that there is anything I don't like about it.

I used an elliptical device called "Orbitrek' and after a whilst it gave me knee discomfort. So i could propose which you do your homework on those machines first. I observed one marketed on television that announces that there is no knee discomfort yet i do no longer keep in mind the kind.
