I've heard it's at least 35,000. The Commie Chinese government places them in places like hospitality industry, restaurants, computer repair, telecom companies, etc.
They like the hotel and restaurant workers overhearing conversations and they steal data with computer techs and intercept transmissions at telecoms.
No other country has anywhere near as many spies in the US.

I agree. There are many more than we care to admit. China will be the next world power. They have 2/5 of the world's population and they spend an atrocious amount of their GNP on defense. They also have 4000 years of culture behind them, so they will wait for the decline of the U.S.
Add the "selective" English ability they use to turn on and turn off at will and you are there.

I am sure there are spies but have no knowledge how many or if you are close to being right. I do go to China on business and know that Chinese are normally very loyal to their country and also love to pass on information. It may not be as simple as a few spies like you see on TV. There are thousands of them abusing their Visas and more being smuggled in. I think that is bad and a real threat to our security. But, as far as the people, there are many nice Chinese and most I have met are poor and despirate to have a better life. That is what they are doing here,.

You are correct: there are a lot of spies in the U.S. Not only from China, but Korea, Japan, Israel, Russia...Just about every country in the world has spies in the U.S. Not only to check out our security, our resolve (have you noticed that most people on Y! are AGAINST fighting for our freedoms and ways of life?), but also spy out our military technologies, and all other technologies?
I haven't heard any numbers, but estimates are in the tens of thousands...
