Okay im sick of people telling me not to buy a dog from a pet store, i know about the puppy mills. but some places allows u to meet with the breeders and stuff, so don't start about the puppy mills and stuff, im a worker at a local shelter and i know all about them, i can't adopt a big dog cuz i don't have the room, and most dogs that do come into the sheltters are mostly big, and they would end up right back in there cuz i can't take care of them, so a small dog is perfect,
petfinder is pretty cool cut its hard finding a dog and like trying to get it specially when u want to know the personality of the dog, and the overall physical being,
so i would greatly be thank ful.
if anyone knows a place in longisland new york, or flushing queens that is a trustable place.
thnx,
I KNOW ABOUT THE MILLS, =)

well fyi, to the person who said that, maybe i can't take care of a dog, my other dog got sick cuz the vet gave her the wrong medication and they took it in, and second i could careless if someone believes me about working in a shelter, but mainly it depends on where u live, here small breed dogs go fast, they don't last even 2 hours, and yes i have been searching close to 2 years now, but now that i have enough info to buy a dog im just trying to find the right one that would fit into my life style, no problem if some of u guyz disagree, but the best thing is, to just leave if ur not going to be any help and just criticize.

get a pug. every pug i have ever met has been the most special and loveable dog ever!! i just got one and love her!! since the breed is known for having really great personality, best of toy breed, should be able to just go anywhere and get one. i got mine in mass/RI border at pug-a-boo and found on breeders.net
pugs immediately become a part of the family, love attention and children and other pets. just need to be careful of the heat, they can overheat fast. clean wrinkles in face often and some need eye drops occasionally. other than that, they're simple and fun to care for

Okay, if you're sick of people telling you about puppy mills, recommending adoption over pet stores, etc., then do your homework.
It's not like you're coming on here saying "I am interested in purchasing a purebred _______, does anyone know of a good breeder in my area?"
You're looking for a ...whatever...toy breed to be a fashion accessory. And, I'm sorry, I don't believe that you work at a shelter. I worked with a bully breed rescue, and THEY would've found me a toy breed pup, if I had asked. There are plenty of reputable breeders of all breeds. If you were willing to invest the time and money, you could find one. Instead, you want to come on here and get some tiny, cheap, poorly bred dog for minimal money and minimal effort. Sorry that not a lot of people want to help.
Thumbs down to your hearts' content, everyone!

Petfinder works better if you have an idea what breed you are interested in. As for the petstores 'letting you meet the breeder", so? Irresponsible people don't come with green skin and "I'm a greedy jerk" tattooed on their foreheads. :-) I know lots of otherwise totally nice people that I wouldn't let own a cockroach, let alone breed dogs. Have you any breed preferences? color like or dislikes? specific size preference, other than 'toy'?

There's nothing wrong with wanting a dog that fits your lifestyle and preferences. I'm sure that one is out there for you. Also, on petfinder there is a little known link that says, "Classified ads". Did you check there? They are for dogs that aren't actually in rescues or shelters, but are up for new homes.

If you'd like, you can e-mail me privaely, and I can see what I can do to help you. I know there is a small-breed only rescue on the Jersey side of the river. Can't remember the name of it, but I think I can find it for you. Let me know.

ADDED: General Bailey!!! OMG! Petland is the WORST puppymill patron in the US! Please don't recommend them. I can prove it if you'd like.

If you know all about puppy mills, then you must know NOT to buy from a pet store!!!! Pet stores are higher than breeders usually anyway!! There is no reason to buy from a pet store. , There must be lots of breeders of toy dogs within an hours drive of you. Call local vets and ask them to recommebd a reputable breeder. They know the breeders, the dogs and their puppies. Good luck.

If you can't take care of a big dog then what makes you think you can take care of a small one? They have more teeth problems and anal glands must be expressed in some. Are you ready for the countless dental appointments? How about checking a SMALL BREED RESCUE!!! There are a ton of them and That my friend....is why there are less in the shelter. Again check petfinder. Some are willing to ship.

BY THE WAY.

I looked at your other question. What happened to the other dog that you couldn't potty train? You sure you are ready for another?

I too am int he search for the right toy breed to come to my house. I have found hoobly.com, petclassifieds.us and puppydogweb.com all helpful. You can search by location or breed. There are tons to choose from. Also if you can find a PetLand that gets their pups from local breeders they can be pricey but with all that they come with and the deals you can get its worth looking into. I hope this helps and if you would like to e-mail me please feel free!
