It truly would have godlike powers and its existence would be beyond doubt. Of course, it couldn’t be worshipped as our creator because we created it, but to us it would be a god and to it, we would be insects living meaningless lives. If it could write for us a perfectly fair and unbiased moral code, would atheists obey it? If it could judge us in criminal courts with a cold, emotionless perfection, would atheists resent its judgments?

Um...if I had any sort of interest in theism, then I wouldn't be an atheist.

And you're assuming I believe that morality is objective to begin with, which I don't. I already have a moral code I follow, regardless of what any dogma or computer says.

As for computers ruling in courts? Well that might help speed up night court, but this means we'd have an alogorithm for judgement to begin with, that didn't overlook anything. If things were that simple, we wouldn't have such long court cases to begin with.

Atheists don't tend to worship, period. Nor do I think it likely we would just decide a computer was a god. No doubt, there would be those who see it that way, but they wouldn't be atheists - by definition.

This has to be one of the dumbest questions I've read. Atheists don't believe in gods, so they would simply regard the computer as a computer.

No. Atheists do not worship beings. Even the most "super" super-computer is not a supernatural being, or a deity.

Why do you xians demand that there be a diety for everyone - even if the diety isn't your own special fantasy?

Has it occurred to you that your daydreams of fantastic creatures don't necessarily translate into a "oh! oh! I have to have a special playmate, too!" for me?

No!

Atheists are as moral, without any type of god, as anyone else.
