What if I married someone who is resident in Hong Kong? can i apply for a Hong Kong id? we've been together for 5 years.

yes, but not immediately. you need to wait for certain time. also, you can call to hk immigration for detail.

i checked for my ex, who is from the state. American citizenship takes a long time to be HK citizenship too. but he can have working permit. it all depends what country you meet as well. hard to say in general. call or email them is the quick and best way.

According to this webpage from the Hong Kong Immigration Dept. the answer is generally no, you must be qualified on your own to be able to have the Right of Abode in Hong Kong,
check Q13 and A13 on this webpage:

It says "generally," so maybe there are exceptions, it does seem a bit odd, as many countries will have immigration laws that will permit spouses to immigrate to one another's countries, maybe you can get some more detailed advice. Good luck.
