It looks like you should qualify. The fact that you make 40,000 dollars is not going to help but it really is not that much. The fact that you have two children will help you qualify for a lot more. In your position you will most likely qualify for a lot more in loans than in grants. Still it is financial aid and in the long run is one of the best investments you can make. School loans are at very low interest and when you consider the increast in salary and/or interest in your work it continues to pay dividends long after the loan is actually paid off.
The best people to talk to are the financial aid people at the institution you want to go to. They work with people all the time and would not only know if you will qualify but often can tell you about how much you qualify for.
Good luck on your financial aid and your new career.

You will definitely qualify for some types of aid. As mentioned above, your income might hurt your chances for a Pell grant, however if you will no longer be working and it will decrease your family's overall income, mention it to the financial aid office. Ask for a professional judgement due to the income decrease if thats what will happen. When you fill out the FAFSA, you should put the actual income your family earned, but make adjustements with the financial aid office afterwards. Good Luck!
