Do you believe in "imprecatory prayer" which is praying for someone's misfortune or for their death ? Is there a biblical basis for or against this ?

In the article linked below a Southern Baptist pastor asked his followers to pray for the deaths of two people.

quote from article
"Wiley S. Drake, a Buena Park pastor and a former national leader of the Southern Baptist Convention, called on his followers to pray for the deaths of two leaders of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

The request was in response to the liberal group's urging the IRS on Tuesday to investigate Drake's church's nonprofit status because Drake endorsed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for president on church letterhead and during a church-affiliated Internet radio show.

Drake said Wednesday he was "simply doing what God told me to do" by targeting Americans United officials Joe Conn and Jeremy Leaming, whom he calls the "enemies of God."

Does God approve of these types of prayers ?

Also, this "pastor" claims that he is doing what God told him to do. Does that make sense to you, if God wanted to strike these two "enemies" of his dead, couldn't he just strike them dead ? Why would he order someone to ask God to kill them, instead of just killing them ?

JD - What's in the pipe you are smoking ? I am not advocating this AT ALL , not even a little bit. I am appalled by this behavior from this supposed pastor of a Christian church, which is why I am asking. This has nothing to do with Wicca, if you want to spank someone, spank the Southern Baptist pastor who is leading his church to do such things in the name of God. Don't shoot or spank the messenger.

What a question a course it is not proper to pray for someone else's death, just when you think you have read it all this pops up

We are all here on a journey through life and with that many lessons to learn, we all chose the life we have and only we can change the direction it will go no one else but us

We have our own personal challenges in life we have to accomplish for our life to be over so we can move on to the next life

Love & Blessings

I believe that praying evil for someone is cursing them, which is a sin. If the person does die (prematurely), the one who prayed has some karmic debt to the victim, for that small part in the prayer.

Everyone has an instant thought occasionally, "I wish that person were dead (gone)!". It's the actual, intentional prayer that is evil, or a sin.

Well, it seems a little extreme, but David did it. Psalm 59:13,
Psalm 70:2. And he was a man after God's own heart.

Never heard of that 'prayer'. I sometimes wish someone were dead, like Osama, but I'd never pray for that.

I would pray for the end of someones suffering, like if they had a terminal illness.

When you pray for the misfortune of another human being,
be it illness or death. you are essentially opening yourself up to the enemy. God is love he says, pray for your enemies, not pray for their death. He says, bless them. Another screwed up denominational leader. They also denounced speakeing in tongues, which is clearly in the bible.

Well, don't really believe it makes any difference, since prayer does not seem to work anyway.

And in recent studies actually showed a derogatory effect. So maybe if you didn't pray they would be killed, then they would.

I know every one else will be spanking you hard for this one but I might as well kick you while your down.

God is not a wiccin voodoo doll that will magicly kill with your say so.

The question is wrong on so many levels.

Can you bring some one back to life?
No?
Then don't be so quick to demand death.

God is the judge, as for us we are commanded to love all men. and if you can not forgive, you hold the greater sin.

The word of God.
Amen.

Of course it is not proper. And it hurts the person praying more than the person being prayed for. It is negativity and hate at it's worst.

If praying for something made it happen, I would have been rich and thin a long time ago.
