U.S. officials have suspended the search for six coal miners missing deep underground in the western state of Utah, after a second collapse killed three rescue workers and injured six others late Thursday. Three of the injured are still hospitalized. VOA's Cindy Saine reports from Washington that the governor of the state of Utah has called the accident a turning point in the U.S. mining industry.

The latest news is that because of the 3 rescuers who got killed, and the extreme reisk that many more might get killed if they continue the sideways approach, that tunnel that got maybe 800 feet of the 1800 feet needed & took over a week to get that far, will probably have to be abandoned.

They now have four small holes drilled from up top which they are using to deliver oxygen, and using cameras lowered down there, and microphones ... they are hearing weird sounds, but have not been able to determine for sure if the 6 lost miners have survived
