I have a Dodge Ram 1500 (V8) that will not start. It did though lie "dorment" for at least 1 yr. It ran pryor to that and I had bought another truck and just let this one sit. It ran perfectly fine before that. My neighbor brought over his hand held "computer" and it read "no link..... computer error". Any idea on what this could be? I am stumped on this one.

I put a new battery in it and that is not it. I had not driven it at least one year. Any ideas to this one?

As others have said, the gas still in it can't be good. Sitting that long isn't good for an engine. The 'code' your neighbor drew out may be an erroneous code or a dead battery.

Check the fuses in the PDC on the left fender well. There is a main fuse that could have blown if you tried to jump start it. Check also fuel pressure. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and sitting in gas that long could have allowed varnish to build up on the pump and prevent it from working.

Pull one of the spark plug wires and stick a screwdriver in the end of it. Hold the metal shaft of the screwdriver near (a quarter inch or so) metal (not a fuel line) while someone cranks it a few seconds. Spark should jump between the screwdriver and metal surface.

It might not hurt to squirt a little oil or Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinders in case the piston rings have dried out as well. It it starts then, expect smoke from the tail pipe for a little bit.

Good luck with it. I hope you get it running without major expense.

year old gas wont run very well in any vehicle you may have to get some of the old gas out of it and add some fresh gas to it,also check it when you crank it over to make sure its getting fire to the plugs,if you got gas and fire it should start,it may not sound the best when it first starts, but you should be able to get it started ,keep a battery charger handy though ,you may run the battery down a few times before you get it started again, good luck on it.

Did you put fresh gas in it? Gas can go bad in less than a year.Try priming it throttle body with a table spoon full of fresh gas.
If it tries to start, add some good gas to the tank at about 3 times the amount of gas already in the tank. Keep cranking till the mixture gets to the throttle body.

that's not significant. i'm a Ford guy individually yet what is going to make any truck final for 10 years or longer isn't who makes it, that's who's keeping it. in case you're taking automobile of the truck, carry out frequently happening upkeep in accordance to the manufactures innovations and fix it whilst it breaks that's going to final a protracted time.
