Does anyone know of a plan for beginner runners? And I REALLY mean beginner....I "ran" today and here's what I did: Warmed up for 5 minutes easy then started to run at about 5 mph. Could only go for 2 minutes then I had to walk for a minute. I kept doing the 2 minutes, one minute thing then cooled down. I suck and need to get better. I really want to enjoy going for a run. HELP!

If you are a female...here are a few books that may help...
The Nonrunner's Marathon Guide for Women: Get Off Your Butt and On with Your Training (by Dawn Dais)

Sole Sisters: Stories of Women and Running
(by Jennifer Linand Susan Warner)

The Complete Book Of Running For Women
(by Claire Kowalchik)

Women's Complete Guide to Running (by Jeff/Barbara Galloway)

I read the first three and I am currently reading the last.
Sole Sisters is a motivational book with a bunch of short stories on female runners.
The others are all more or less everything you need to know about running.
Very good reads! Good Luck!

Look forJoe Henderson's Jog, Run, Race...it was published in the 1970s, but the workbook/book takes a person with zero background and sensibly into running distances. It is a great book and may still be available at online stores or in libraries.

You've taken the biggest steps already. Now you know where you are in physical terms, and you have a good routine. All you have to do is adjust your routine so you will alternate 2 minutes of running with 2 minutes of walking.

KEEP IT UP !! & Good Luck

You're doing the right thing! Be patient! Keep adding minutes to your run and subtracting minutes from your walking... and you will be surprised at how much you improve as long as you push yourself.... GO FOR IT! Running Rocks!
