Bigger diapers and potty training a 4 year old with Down Syndrome? Size 6 are the biggest we can find.?

I have a 4 year old boy with Down Syndrome. He is very high functioning and we are starting potty training. He is letting us know when he needs to go about half the time. He is in size 6 diapers but they are starting to get to small. I'm not sure what to do because that is the largest size I can find. Any suggestions on where you can find bigger diapers. Thanks

He is 4. He weighs less then 30 lbs and is 3 feet tall. An adult diaper might work as a tent, but not to stop his shorts from getting wet.

Talk to your pediatrician to get a prescription for pull-ups or diapers. Medicaid pays for diapers/pull-ups as needed for children with developmental disabilities after the age of 4. I believe it even pays for children on other insurance, if your insurance does not pay for this. You may have to contact medicaid if you have not already received services from them.
This will enable you to get whatever size needed at a medical supply place.

You can try Huggies Pull Up Nighttimes for overnight use. During the daytime you can try just regular Huggies Pull Ups. That's what I would do if I were you. The Huggies pullups are bigger than the regular diapers.

There is such a thing as size 7 Pampers Cruisers diapers but there are only 18 in a package and the cost is like 12 bucks. I would go with the pull ups instead since your son is toilet training.

You never did mention the brand of size 6 diapers that he is outgrowing. If you still want to use regular diapers then the Pampers Cruisers have VERY stretchy sides. If he is outgrowing another size 6 diaper than check out the size 6 Cruisers. They won't be as tight.

I also have a 4-yr-old boy with Down Syndrome. We are doing potty training as well. Not going that great. Anyway, I have him in Pull Ups. They go all the way to size 5T. He is a big boy, close to 40 pounds, so we are in the 4T-5T size now. I suggest you use these instead of diapers. I think it helps that they pull on and off instead of making your son lie down for a diaper change.

Pampers cruisers makes a size 7, after that either pull ups, good nights, or adult diapers but the small adult diaper is a 22"-36" they will be very large on a small child.

Hi...my son is 3 1/2 yrs with DS and we are going through the same situation. we tried the huggies supreme size 6 they seem to be larger than other brands of the same size such as luvs and pampers for night time. my son is 35 lbs and 32 inches tall. and we go with pull-ups size 2T-3T during the day. I have tried the huggies overnights, but no success. I must have gotten a bad batch because those diapers EXPLODED! nothing like finding little gel clumps all over the floor. but if my son had his way he would just be naked...lol Good luck potty training! it sounds like things are going way better with you than with us at the moment. =)

They make larger diapers for adults and that may be the switch you need to make. I took care of children with cerebral palsy and other special needs and the parents had to move up to an adult size diaper for them once they past the size 6 in baby diapers.

pampers has size 7 that i am pretty sure just came out i can only find them at one supermarket around our town lol
but it something right
doe syour child have a speach teacher or anything that u can ask what top do
some suggest like depends and adult diapers

I don't know if this would work, but it's probably worth a shot.

Have you tried the Good Night's brand from Huggies. I think they are aimed for children with wetting the bed problems. Which leads me to believe that they might not hold up for a long haul, but might be good enough to catch accidents. Also, they pull up like real underpants, so that might help with the learning.
