You each seem to have your share of faults

in religion - the faults are usually due to individuals. God's word is perfect in every way. unfortunately, the disciples sometimes leave much to be desired. (we all fall short of the glory of God)

but atheism is worse because there is no faith, hope, or love to be found there there. in the devastation and destruction mankind continually struggles with - faith, hope, and love are the only things that keep us from total annihilation.

Atheism is worse. For them there is no hope or future. Every day they closer to an eternal end and further from there earthly treasure. Christianity (A life with a loving relationship with the Father, followed by an eternity in Paradise) is filled with hope for the future. Every day true believers get closer to their treasure and an eternal beginning. A treasure that can't be lost, stolen or destroyed for ever. Which sounds better to you?

The question would better be, which is the best? It is a matter of perspective and personal choice. For me the best would be religion. For most creative people I think the best would be religion, but not for all. For the fearful the best might be atheism but that could also be said for religion.

Personally, I have to say atheism. For all the harm that has been done in the name of religion, how many millions have been killed in the name of "scientific" atheism? (read: communism) Religion at least attempts to provide a moral standpoint from which to judge right and wrong. Atheism gives no such backbone, and thus allows for little moral objection to atrocities such as the Holocaust.

The proverbial apples and oranges, Sean. No way to 'judge' which is 'worse'. Religion simply plays no role in my life and work, and, whilst I have been an open atheist since boyhood, it is merely who I am, along with my interests in film, the stage, television, sports, the arts, my children, my wife, my homes in New York and California, and my friends: all together they make up the whole: me.

I think that anytime something becomes dogmatic in nature, it loses its freedom, and thus its appeal to me. Atheists tend to be less dogmatic than those who follow specific religions. Based upon that tendency, I would have to say I have less tolerance for religions than atheists.

Fanaticism is the ultimate baddie here. Fanatical atheists are just as annoying as fanatical True Believers. People like Stalin who kill in the name of Marxism are just as noxious as people like Torquemada who kill in the name of Christianity.

False premise to the question. It implies both are bad, simply to a differant definable degree. Not correct.

Well, everyone has their faults no matter what background or religious belief. This is really vague.
