When I was a practicing Christian, about the worst thing to me was going to church. An hour or two of extreme boredom, with just enough pointless rituals to keep me from nodding off.

I'd ask the people going to church with me if they enjoyed themselves, and they would ALWAYS assert that they did, even if they looked just as bored as I was. Then I'd ask them, "If it's so much fun, why don't you go three or four times a week?" They'd always give some tired rationalization that didn't even sound sincere--as if God were going to strike them with a thunderbolt if they were honest about what they really thought about church.

So, I ask you True Believers: do you really enjoy going to church (temple, etc.)?

Hare Krishna Temple, yes indeed.
Chanting and singing, followed by lecture and discussion. Lots of incense, chanting, very peaceful.
Try it sometime.

Maybe you didn't have as gifted a Pastor as I do. I think that you would really enjoy this 20 minute part of a sermon that aired on the radio yesterday since Pastor Paul tells the truth about "church people" and the mistakes that they make. Not only does he tell the truth in an interesting way but he has the whole church laughing while he does it.

I think my friend does. She goes to church everyday except Saturdays. Can't say I do. I hate having someone else stand up there telling me what to think. Maybe that's part of why I left Christianity. My new religion requires me only to worship in the way that feels right and my "temple" is simply my backyard where I can be surrounded by nature. This I enjoy completely.

Yes, I do. I attend a more contemporary church (with electric guitars, and drum solos, not hymnals) which really draws people in. The messages are (almost) always interesting, with real application to daily lives. If you honestly don't enjoy church, I would suggest at least trying another church, even if it's only for a single week.

I look forward all week to Friday evening when the whole family goes to Shabbat service at Temple. Sometimes we also go on Saturday morning. Always for High Holy Days, holidays, etc. And for any other special class, lecture, special event, etc. Love the feeling of community, the learning and the peace I feel.

Absolutely. After being battered by the world and things of the world for an entire week, I love going to spend time with my church family. It feels like getting the filth of the world washed off. Going to the altar, crying out to God, praising, worshipping. It feels great. I love the Lord, I love to worship Him and thank Him for all He has done for me, and I am not the least bit bored. It's hard to get bored there. Whether it is the pastor preaching under the anointing of the Holy Ghost, or the Holy Ghost Himself directing a praise or altar service, it is exciting to see what God has to say. Sorry your church sounds dead and boring. Ours is alive, because Christ is alive !
God bless.

I am a Christian who does not enjoy church. I do like the sermons, though. What I don't like is feeling like I need to get to know people there, mostly because I have a sort of social phobia when it comes to people I don't know. As strange as it sounds, I believe God is ok with my choice because I do study His Word and I think He has a plan to use me in some way for His glory, in His own time, not mine. I pray that He shows me soon.

I do like small Bible study groups, but unfortunately, you have to go to church to find such a group.

Yes, I really like going to church - but for me I think it's because I did a lot of research and found a church I actually enjoy going to. I went to a lot of places that I would not have been able to make myself attend regularly.

And the thing is, in searching all over, I found a church where it's not a chore - I don't have to motivate myself to go - I look forward to it all week long.

I am an atheist and I absolutely agree with you. Some of the Moorish architecture in Southern Spain is amazing, the Churches and Basilicas in Rome are wonderful and the old Norman Churches in England are beautiful. I don't think there is one type of religious architecture better than another. Buddhist temples in the East are beautiful and very different to western styles of architecture. They are all very different and each have beauty, none better than the other, just different.

Yes, I do enjoy it. And will seek out a church even when on vacation.
I would have to say find the church you feel comfortable in. Not just the closest one to you. That has been a major factor in my life. As that makes a difference.
