Dog tricks, you don't have to be a citizen for free lunch in CA or for other things. And the numbers of illegal immigrants in California (millions) is so large that even though the school problem is a combination of things, it would CLEARLY be much better here without this problem. And with continuing inflow, they will never recover. A Dem magazine I saw referred to public schools in California as 'the place where the poor send their children'. That is because the middle class increasingly mortgages its retirement to buy their children and education and a future.

Honestly DAR I do not know what the answer is. I would like the illegal parents deported and they can take their children with them, but with the way our administration is handling things right now I do not ever see that happening.

I'm feeling you on this one!! My kids go to a private school because the school down the street is 95 % Hispanic which I honestly would not have a problem with this IF they spoke english. The teachers speak more spanish in the classroom than english. When I asked what about the kids that do not speak spanish what do you do with them.............. I was told "oh it all works out" HUH what do you mean it all works out???? "We speak english and spanish in the classroom." The answer was a crapy one!! They are not going to this school. I LOVE our house and do not want to move. I knew this might be a problem when my children became school age. I live in a historical district in my city and the sourounding area is mainly rentals. SO my kids go to private school. So now I'm paying taxes fr the illegals to go to school and paying for my kids to go to a prvate school.

There are so many factors to the school issue and budgets it's hard to pin point illegal immigration as the main cause of a failing system. The No Child Left Behind act is the most bogus waste of tax dollars there is.They dipped into education funds for the war.I'm not from your area so I don't see a lot of the things I see people talking about on here.We have a lot of illegal immigrants but we don't pander to them in our school district either. For instance, you have to be a citizen to receive free lunches here and we don't have interpreters except for the Hmong refugees. But yet our schools funding has been cut drastically which according to state reports are due to the National deficit. So like I said it's a hard issue to resolve on a National level when there are so many factors involved.

Teachers unions want more people since more people equals more teaching jobs.

Also, the CTA (California Teachers Association) gave $2.1 million dollars to counter a measure that would stop bilingual education in California schools.

"Citizens for an Educated America raised and spent $4,754,157, including $2.1 million from the California Teachers Association and $1.5 million from Jerrold Perenchio, owner of the Spanish-language network Univision"

The supporters of free education for illegals almost always live in lilly white school districts; it is easy for them to speak on behalf of bilingual education. Can you imagine if 500-1000 of Spanish speaking illegals tried to enroll in their kids school disricts. I think the citizens of Illinois should take up a collection in order to find homes in the neighborhoods where Durbin and Obama live. Then we would see how pious they are about helping the down-trodden.

It is also probable that
some of the students in these programs
will be the children of legal immigrants
or persons on extended nonimmigrant
visas. Nevertheless, there is no other
change in the flow of foreigners into the
country other than the flow of illegal
immigrants that would explain this surge
in LEP enrollment.

that's not science. that's passionate claims without backing them up.

I really don't see why anyone thinks they all should be able to go to schools, we are the ones paying school taxes on our property taxes. Our elderly and people who don't even have kids in school have to pay school taxes within their property taxes. Then the government comes along and lets illegals in the schools. Our kids have to be immunized, health screened, all kinds of ID's and proof of residency. Then illegals can just get right in. This is bull.
