Atheism is a faith. Its adherents have to wake up in the morning and say, there is no God, there is no God, there is no God. Unlike the Christians that wakes up and says "thank you God for this new day".
Atheist do not require a God in their day to day living. There is no accountability. Do what you want without fear of consequences. You live and then you die. Their faith requires that they will not be held accountable because there is no one to render accountability to, after you die that is.
An agnostic rides the fence. Maybe there is, maybe there isn't. Its a "I'm not sure" attitude.
With all due respect to atheist and agnostics, both those positions are more destructive to mankind verses believing a divine all caring being. Why should any of those 2 belief systems care about the poor and the sick and the down trodden. After all, whether they care or not there is no reward or condemnation for their actions under that belief system, after death.
Atheism is still a belief system. Agnostics is a wait and see attitude. I believe there is a God. I don't believe there is a god. Both statements must use the word believe.
Believe is that place where both systems of belief weigh there anchors to. Question is, who will weather the storm better. The angnostic at a time of need will set up his anchor next to the believer in God. The atheist more then likely will say what storm?

We Christians (don't worry, I'm not a holy roller, I believe in God but I don't shove it down anyone's throat) think/know that atheists believe fully and completely that there is no God. They don't see/believe in a Creator. This is one of the scientific approaches to examining life. Agnostics, on the other hand, have uncertainty about the existence of God. They think that it's impossible to KNOW...and that is the kicker...agnostics don't/can't accept faith. It's not a belief, it's doubting. It's another scientific approach to examining life...if it can't be tested, it can't be proven, and it's doubted until it's proven.

An agnostic believes that there simply is not enough evidence in the world to say for certain that there is a God. An atheist is someone who simply believes that a God doesn't exist, period.

I can sum up what most atheists believe
I understand the purpose of religion. People need to explain things that they don't understand. For instance back in the day when lightning struck thor was mad. Does anyone still believe in thor? No because we know exactly why lightning strikes now. So why do we believe in other gods? Maybe because we cant explain how we got here or our purpose. Do we have to have a purpose can't we just be here? For many years religion "outlawed science" because it could prove beliefs wrong. Religion was used to control the masses and still is. Think about it, how many things that are in the bible aren't really suited for this day in age. Maybe there should be a new testament. Ohh wait there is. That's because religion attempts to evolve with the time to maintain its ability to control. Example in the Old Testament it was forbidden to eat pork. That's because pork could kill you. Then came using salt as a preservative and later refrigerators (science), so the change was made. See the bible was written by man, not just one either. There was no copy machines back then so copying was done by hand. Each person would add there own interpretation of what they believed. Remember this was over 2000 years ago. Think of how much our society has changed in the past 100 years. Now multiply that by 20. People thought smoking was good for you 50 years ago. Imagine if the bible was written then. By the way did you know that outside of the bible there is absolutely ZERO evidence that the Jews were enslaved in the desert for 200 years absolutely none? Lack of evidence doesn't mean it didn't happen but it is what it is. Just like Jesus' resurrection, the body was missing from its tomb. That doesn't mean he rose from the dead. Remember we are talking about people that had a 2000 year old mentality. The body is missing, he rose from the dead.
Here are some of my main problems with religion:
1. Only people have souls and can go to heaven
Why are we so special? You're telling me my dog doesn't have a soul.
2. Until recently you are pretty much born into religion by geographical region. If you are born in Iraq your religion is so. So everyone but maybe one geographical region is doomed believing in a false god.
3. Accepting JC as your savior. So let me get this straight; some dude murders a bunch of children and he accepts JC afterwards and poof he's in. But me on the other hand who is kind to everyone but does not believe is screwed to eternal damnation. That makes sense. Let me explain a little further. This is a control issue. If someone does something the church sees as a sin what's to keep them from throwing their hands up in the air and saying "screw it, I'm doomed I should do whatever I want to now". So the church says confess your sins and you back in.
4. War (my god has a bigger dick than your god)
5. Going to church. So god is all powerful but he wants us to worship him? Hmmm sounds like one of the 7 sins to me.
6. The belief that the world is only 6000 years old and Dino bones are here to test faith. It is a proven fact that the earth is more than 6000 years old.
I could seriously go on for hours about this but I'll wrap it up.
Bottom line:
It would seem like religion is brainwash to control the masses to me. So here is what I am going to do. I am going to live by pretty much the same "rules / commandments (control)"as much of religion. Not because there is a consequence of going to hell, but because it is the right thing to do. Good luck on your journey.
Chris
P.S. ask yourself this. If I claimed to be the resurrection of Jesus Christ would you believe me? Would you require proof or would you have blind faith that I was telling the truth? If you would require proof then why would you believe a 2000 year old book with no author? Just a thought

It means that there is a belief that there is no God. A denial of a supreme being.
What Atheists attempt to do is say that it stops there.
For those Atheists who come to Yahoo!Answers to preach daily, it is not true that it stops there.
What many of them do is expect others to believe what they believe. Not all, but many. It is no longer for them to carry on with their own idea and live it, because they typically come to places like the 'Religion And Spirituality' forum and espouse their beliefs. So they are preaching their belief just like a religious person. They are answering questions about God religiously.
Then they attempt to link logic and science as a part of their response. That is the most unintelligent thing for them to do! Because they have no proof of what they espouse, it is NOT a scientific ideology, there was no scientific method involved at all! And then saying that it is a belief that is derived through logic, when no logic at all is necessary, only faith.
So they do not have science, they do not have logic, and to top it off; they are in denial about the whole thing. Their denial is illustrated when they call what they believe 'anti-faith', or 'anti-belief'. Well, if it were anti-faith, then they would not even trust their own ideas!
So it is not anti-faith or anti-belief. It is fully enveloping themselves in their belief that 'there is no God' to manifest as a complete ideology, complete with mantras ( "There is no God" ; "The Bible is a Fairytale" , etc. ) , and systems counter to that of any God, especially the one in the Bible.
They have their literature, especially from Atheist sites which they paste to their replies as dedicated as the most pious Christian handing out Chick tracts, and announce their belief as being the only truth allowable to intelligent people.
So those Atheists who come to the 'Religion and Spirituality' forum from day to day are becoming as religious as any other religion. Not making themselves different at all from those they complain about. The more they are here, the more like a religion they are becoming.

As there are many Christians it is naive to ask what they think. Atheists profess to believe in nothing, i.e., they don't believe in God, and nothing else is anything. But that is not being agnostic, as agnostics believe in God, but don't prefer a particular religion, because they don't want to make a mistake. I believe atheists believe they know something, but they don't; it is very apparent as soon as they tell you what they know. And if you stick a ski pole through their heart on the side of a mountain in sub-zero weather, as happened to Clint Walker, it will expose them as being no atheist.
