A royal who converts to Catholicism or who marries a Catholic is banned from the Throne of England.( a reaction to James II)
The male heir could marry the daughter of Osama Bin Laden or that of the Great Leader of North Korea or the head of the Ku Klux Klan- anything but a Catholic.

I think it is an embarrassing anachronism and an insult to all the Catholics of the UK

It is bigoted and it is insulting not only to Catholics but the Royals of today's world. It is embarrassing that they have allowed this silly law to remain on the books. I am in agreement with you on this.
Peace be with you.

I feel that many of the rules and regulations that were percieved as smart 500 years ago are out of date now. Bigoted is a very strong word, I would use short sighted. But yes, the BRSA should be thrown out. It's a worn out relic from a time long since past.

I don't find it so much bigoted as silly. Are they STILL that hung up over the things King Henry VIII was upset about?
