why should I or anyone else be punished for not believeing in people? Why would an omniscient being want my support yet be so ambiguous in asking for it?
I dont get it.

Hrmmm... all that was manifested in the miracle of my birth was apparently a bottle of jack a lil lsd and a lack of self control.

That's because it makes absolutely no sense.
There's nothing to get.

God manifested himself in the miracle of your birth...you are created in His image.
you're right, no one is going to be punished for not believing what other people say.
God wants your love, your heart, if you will...because you were made for a purpose. He isn't ambiguous about asking for it - if you look around you, there are so many that need your help...if only you are willing to give it...

Great question that gets to the heart of what organized religion is all about.
If some priest or other religious scam artist can convince you that you can't talk to God personally, but have to go through a mediator (i.e. themselves), then they exert a tremendous amount of psychological control over you. And, if they're God's Official Spokesperson (TM), then you have to obey them as if they were God themselves.

Hey Rembrandt!
A question for you! You look like a smart guy, how can it be possible for God to manifest Himself, in all His Glory and Greatness, into a human body, wandering around in the land and urinating/defecating on it's soil?
How can that ever be possible...?

no "gods" do that because it would be a forced position. nobody wants someone to like/worship them because they have to. if you saw a god, you would be forced to say, "well guess he exists so i better get to worshipping". as to why a divine being would want your support. idk, but its not exactly a bad thing.
