What if the universe wasn't created by the Big Bang? What if it was created by the collision of two multidimensional branes? Shouldn't you believe in M-theory just in case?

Who likes puppies?

As I understand it, the two theories are mutually exclusive. The Big Bang theory says the entire universe was "created" by a singularity. Brane Theory posits that the universe existed "before" the singularity, but that our particular "slice" of spacetime was caused by brane collision.

However, my understanding of this could very well be wrong.

I think its neat, but wasn't the idea that this collision is what sparked that which on the inside looks like the big bang? I see no conflict.

I wonder what would happen if two multidimensional branes collided. I bet it would probably cause a big bang...

And I like puppies so much, I have 2.

EDIT: A common hypothesis, is that the collision of the two branes is what caused the singularity to decompress (another is that the collision caused the singularity, and then it's decompression). M theory is still very much open to interpretation, since so much of it is well...theoretical science, as opposed to physical.

The important thing (for Atheism) is that the universe wasn't created by a god. Big Bang, Branes, Hyperspectral String Cheese theory, whatever, science will sort it out.

I like puppies, too, especially with a little A1 sauce.

EDIT
....And gosh darnit folks, it *is* "branes" and not "brains" in this case.

The ekpyrotic theory is a possible explaination for the big bang not an alternative to it.

The ekpyrotic theory hypothesizes that the origin of the big bang could have occurred when two parallel branes touched.

The big bang model itself is a model for the expansion of the universe. It does not address origins.

Lad, the 'Big Bang' idea works for now. In a couple of centuries we humans will know more about the Universe in the wake of technology and science. What we do know now, and what we can be sure of, is that the trillions of galaxies, in each of which are trillions of stars, were NOT 'created' by the not-so-wonderfully-bright god of a meandering tribe of Bronze Age desert nomads on a tiny planet at the edge of one of those trillions of galaxies. Think about it, man. Think! For crying out loud, think!!

I'll sure agree with one thing:---You Evolutionaryologistical -people sure do need a Bang in the Brane.
Soon as I buy into your M-theory, I just know damn well you're commin' up with an N-theory,--then an O, and on and on.That's why nobody likes you crazy Evolutionaryologistical people.
Ya damn twits.

I kind of like the "Big Bang" theory...my kids were created by it. LOL Heck, everthing living reflects back to the parents Banging at some time or another.

I think that M-theory is very cool, but I haven't read very much on it yet. I suspect the science will be way over my head, so I'm waiting for some kind person to dumb it down a bit for me.

Oh, and I love puppies. Although mine has eaten every pair of sandals that I own, so I don't like him all that much right now...

First of all, shutup.
Second of all, I LIKE PUPPIES! Oh they're so cute and fun!
But I hate it when people take advantage of their lives and become sick perverted SOBs that like to screw the animals and later on dismember the body and throw it in the lake or just kick the live out of the poors things. So disgusting! Evil humans...

Not all atheists think the universe was created by the big bang.
