What does the term (sorry, I'm spelling it only as I can hear it) "Fi libre" mean in German?

Maybe what you´ve heard was "viel lieber". It´s an expression which can be used in several ways, but mostly it´s meaning "much better" and appears in a sentence like this:

Das mag ich viel lieber.
I like that much better.

Probably what you're looking for is "viel lieber". I think the best translation would be "much rather".
