Welll that isn't much of a choice.A ferret is a living creature and requires someone responsible to care for it.I'm not really sold on the idea of a ferret as a child's pet. I would not be willing to experiment with tthe child's responsibility at the expense of the ferret. So that leaves the cell phone.I would only opt for that as a gift by having prepaid minutes. That way the child would learn to monitor her time on the cell phone and hopefully use it wisely.I would also make it a condition that once the minutes are used up , that is it for the month unless she finances any further minutes.A cell phone is not a toy so prepaid minutes is the only way I'd agree to a cell phone.

Well do you think that your 11 year old will be able to take care of a ferret? Cause you have to feed it and have a place for it to sleep. I know a kid whose 11 years old and she tends to change her mind. You get her one thing then a few days later she doesn't like it. But it might be different for your daughter. If you get her the cell are you going to get her a contract in which she won't go over her minutes? Depends on you. What do you think she will like more? It also has to be something that you agree on.

Shes a little to young for a cell phone, but ferrets are more responsibility. Maybe, try having her take either of your cell phones for a little while and see if she actually needs one. Most 11 year olds do not. If you go with a ferret remind her to play with it and feed it everyday, while the amazement of a new pet sinks in.

Good Luck!

She's not old of the age that she would be responsible enough for a cell phone. On the other hand.. a ferret would take responsibiliy but the difference is that you would be able to oversee her while caring for the ferret.. you wouldn't be able to oversee the cell phone usage at all times.
IF she proves responsible enough to care for the ferret (which requires feeding AND bathing **they stink if they aren't bathed*, then the next thing to consider would be the cell phone.

I will go for the cell phone, just buy prepaid, then if she does something bad you can take it away for while as punishment, but also will be useful when she is out with friend to reach her and in emergency.
The ferret, it will have more responsibility for both and expenses, will be difficult to get rid of.. if you get tired of it or causes problems, just think cleaning, feeding the animal, get the smell out, etc....
