BMT will be 6-8 weeks (I don't know if they have changed it to 8 weeks yet).
I can't exactly say how long it will be until you move since each tech school varies in length, and you might have to go to more than one. I do know that during your time at tech school, you wont have time to schedule a two or so week cross country trip. The only time off you will have is on national holidays and weekends.
Edit-It takes time to accumulate leave while in the military. Not only will you not have any time to take any little two or so week vacations, you will not have enough leave time.

You're enlisting in October and you want to take 2 and a half weeks off right after you finish basic training. How can you have accumulated 2 and a half weeks when you've only been in the service less than 2 months at that point. You want to take a vacation immediately after basic, and there are senior enlisted with years under their belt who can't get the time off, what planet did you come from? You're another witless number that should remain a civilian!

Your recruiter should have told you this, or you should have asked. You will go directly from basic to tech school(graduate friday, leave monday for school) You are not authorized to get yourself their either. You can take leave after tech school. Good job on the SERE thing. Tough job to get, make sure you focus in training. There is a decent wash out rate for that school

human beings, Jarred like maximum of others are being misinform via the recruiters. The ninety six% he rankings became no longer his ASVAB score. yet, because of fact no person is familiar with extra suitable the recruiters tell them that. The ninety six% became his AFQT score: defense force Qualification try score. it incredibly is sort of a an IQ attempt to make certain how sensible (sensible) one is to have the skill to do 4 issues: study, understand what they study, artwork Math problems, understand Math concepts. in the event that they score extra suitable than 50% on the AFQT then they're eligible to proceed added for enlistment pending their actual examination and how many human beings the AF ought to choose at that ingredient. the actual ASVAB rankings are the MAGE rankings for the AF or the line rankings for the army/Marines/military. The MAGE 4 flair rankings tell AF your skill to be knowledgeable into between the roles in those 4 categories: Mechanical, Administrative, usual, and Electronics. if you bought an ASVAB learn e book and became no longer silly adequate to take the try chilly - you will possibly learn those issues. The AFQT is in fact AF coverage. The recorded minimum is 36% yet, AF can exchange coverage at any time and for some years now they have upped the minimum to 50% AFQT. SO, purchase a clean learn e book on the e book save and artwork it for 30 days earlier you even communicate with a recruiter.

It all depends, you really need to get with your training manager to find out. Sometimes you can go right from basic to tech school. That is what I did but I went to Keesler. But don't make plans like doing a cross country trip until you get your class dates.
Good luck at Basic.

When I left BMT in 2000, we were just put on planes and left for our tech school the day after BMT was over. If you have family, and your tech school is long enough, they can move up there with you. Otherwise you'll have to wait until your tech school is complete and you move to your first duty station.

Nope, you will fly straight to washington the day after basic training.
The Air Force hardly ever grants leave after basic.
Thats why so many people go into DEP, they time when people go to basic, so they graduate right before their tech School class starts.
Your first chance to take leave, will be the X-mas shut down.
Then they will authorise advanced leave of one or two weeks, depending on the Tech School.
Mine shut down for one week over x-mas, but I have heard some shut down for two weeks.

you will not be authorized to take any leave right after Basic Training. they will send you directly to your school immediately after Basic Training. at most you will have a week or so if the school doesn't start right away, but you will NOT have earned enough leave by then to take any. you would be placed in Holding where you would still have to report every day and do menial tasks around base.

I doubt it. Usually after Basic Training you will only have about two weeks to report to the next base. At lease that use to be the norm.
