I know it comes from Queen Vashti from the Book of Esther in the King James Verison of the bible but what is the real meaning and where did it originate from?

The girl's name Vashti \v(a)-sh-ti\ is of Farsi and Persian origin, and its meaning is "beautiful". Biblical: the wife of King Ahasuerus of Persia. Not used by the Puritans.

Vashti has 1 variant form: Vashtee.

Vashti is an uncommon female first name and a very rare surname (source: 1990 U.S. Census).

In the 19th century book called "Hitchcock's Bible Names Dictionary", the name VASHTI was interpreted to mean "that drinks" or "thread" in Hebrew. Others, however, who questioned the historic value of the Book of Esther proposed the name was really MASHTI, an Elamite goddess.
VASHTI, however, is indeed a name found in Persia (aka Iran today) and literally means "a looker", and is understood to mean (or could possibly mean) "beautiful" or "good" in the Persian language.
