It does seem like this needs long term help not an individual instance of punishment. You and your daughter and your granddaughter need some kind of plan for expected behavior with rewards as well as punishments. It should be very speciifc about what is expected, it should be achievable by a 6yo and it should be designed to make all 3 of our lives better in the end. I don;t think these are so easy to throw together and I hear that it is often harder at first instead of easier. If you can find an agency (school, mental health clinic, religious organization) that can help you I think you can really see some improvement. It would help if you and your daughter have someone to back you up. Also remember that this is a tough time, but if you all work together I thinkit can get better. find some one to help on a more ongoing basis then a bunch of yahoos on yahoo answers.

I think punishment would depend on why she did it. If she is just a spoiled brat and never gets punished then you might try the above ideas from others. She is only 6 what is she in Kindergarden, she still has a lot to learn from right to worng and granted she does need to be punished but do you honestly think taking her to the police and locking her in a cell for an hour or just trying to have them scare her at all will do anything. I'm pretty sure she is a little young to understand exactly what the pigs do. Oh what is it that they do NOTHING. My dad tried to threaten me with that when I was like 8 and took a bottle of nail polish. They can't really do anythng when your that young for something like scratching someone. So y would she be scared? Standing someone in the corner doesn't do anything except make them board. Spanking always worked when my mom did it to me but its like these days kids just laugh or tell there teacher you beat them the dfs gets called and your kids are in there custody for a year. For spanking your child. Basically I would say there is nothing you can do you haven't already done. Take away more privaleges. Get counseling?

First, did the school expel her or did they send her to an alternative school. I don't believe they can legally expel a 1st grader so if they did you may have to take legal action. If they sent her to an alternative school I would request in writing that the school do a psych evaluation. They have psychiatrists on staff at alternative school. Your granddaughter is acting out and you and the school must find out why and figure out some method of fixing it. You don't say anything about her parents, are they with her or do you have custody? If you have custody the unresolved feelings about her parents could be part of the problem. One last thought, are her parents into drugs? If they are and her mother did drugs while she was pregnant with your granddaughter this could be causing her problems. Didn't mean to cause you more worry just trying to figure out what is going on with a beautiful 6yr. old. I will say a prayer for you. God bless and good luck.

I'm willing to bet that she treated everyone the same way and gets away with it. If she thinks it a game that is what she has been lead to believe. You need to bust her *** and let her know who the boss is. Letting a 6 year old get away with that sort of stuff a form of child abuse. Why would you even consider calling the police for help with a 6 year old? Let her continue the way she is and you won't have to worry about her long because social services will come in and put her with someone that will make her mind.

This child needs DR PHIL right now!!! There is something terribly wrong if a 6 yr old got kicked out of school. She is troubled by something awful. Has she been abused? Does she get proper nutrition now? Why are the police involved? Everyone needs to get some help NOW..Don't let that chld suffer another day.

How long have you been raising her instead of her parents? If this is a recent change in her life, she might be testing her boundaries with you...

Because she is so young, and because this behavior is pretty extreme, I don't think you should be focusing on the "punishment" as much as finding out WHY she is so angry...

A few months of family counseling with AND without her present might really help. It sounds like she is trying to get attention any way she can. Where does she fall in your family? Are you also caring for other grandchildren and maybe she feels a bit under appreciated?

I don't think spanking is "awful"and I don't immediately rush to judge parents that resort to that; but I really wouldn't suggest it for a kid like this...

You need to seek some professional help. I'm not sure why they kicked her out of school unless there has been problems before if not she should have been put on some type of disciplinary plan. She is after all only 6 years old, but something is bothering her that isn't getting any better

Is she on any meds that may have side effects? Any thing bad happen in her family lately? Is she like this at home with others or is this a first? Sometimes they say ignore bad behavior and only acknowledge good behavior. I agree it is scary what has happened. If there is health insurance I would get her in to talk with a professional ASAP. Sorry to not have a magic wand for you to wave....those grand children have a way of pulling at our heart, for it affects them and their parents which is your baby! Best of luck!

She needs counseling, but has the school provided you any help? Like a school intervention specialist or psychologyical testing? As for the police make sure your go to the family court side or juvenile division. Have they tried to change classes for her? Call your school board to find out what your option are.

I hate to be blunt, but I have to agree with Sabrina. Her mom didn't have the balls to be a parent and probably let the child walk all over her. I see that every single day in my 4 year old grandson. My son is over seas and she has been with me for almost two years. He slaps her, stands behind her and stretches he clothes, tips a plate of food on the floor because he doesn't want to eat it. If he is with me at a time that it is okay to stand in as his mom, all I have to do is say to him, "let me get the wooden spoon." I don't have a bit of trouble. I have cracked his but, through a paper diaper, once or twice in our time together. It hurt his feelings more than his butt, however, he understands when I say don't do it, I am not playing. This is whay your grandchild lacks. Don't get mad. As you can see, this is happening all over now. You have to take the upper hand and teach your granddaughter the fine art of actions. It won't hurt her a bit. Good luck to you.
