Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't JW's supposed to stay free from the world?

I mean if you believe the bible isn't this forum the epitomy of everything evil?

Therefore aren't you risking becoming part of the world again by being here (2 Pet 2:20)?

What do your elders say about you engaging with the 'ungodly' world through this forum?

This is a genuine question. I'm not having a go I'm just trying to get my head round why JW's are here at all?

bob- Technically I still am one. I have never been disfellowshipped and I have never disassociated myself. However if I am asked my religion I say 'none'. I am not an apostate becasue I still live by the principles of what I was brought up on and I have not been hurt by the 'JW movement'. How can they hurt me? They are good people, living clean lives. I don't think I'm an apostate because that would be a total abandonment of the principles, but I do not live my life according to anyone elses rules. I won't be joining you because I think you are wrong. Sorry.

This question wasn't about their right to participate in Answers. But in order to do so they would have to actively seek out this forum. It would be a bit like going out into for example a 'brothel' and trying to preach the 'good news' there. They just would not be allowed to do it. I know they would be welcome here by the more moderate Christians and other faiths, but the JW's only allow their followers to engage with the rest of the world on a purely 'need to' basis and in the course of their ministry. This would be the equivalent of ministering in Sodom and Gomorrah to them. I'm willing to bet they haven't reached a single person by coming on here.

Yahoo Answers is about the exchange of information, nothing evil about that.

There are alot more things I would describe as the epitomy of evil before Yahoo Answers. I'm sure you could too.

Jehovah's Witnesses have more contact with the ungodly world through their place of employment or the television, for exapmle. Some may avoid Yahoo Answers because there are clearly apostates on it. But, if their usage is managed effectively, then a witness can be given to someone who normally wouldn't receive it.

Jehovah's Witnesses take seriously Jesus command to preach the good news and to make disciples (Matthew 24:14, 28:19, 20), they couldn't do that if they shut themselves away like nuns in a convent. But they seperate themselves when it comes to the world's political issues, worldy holidays, nationalism, etc.

---------

Contrary to what Bob says, Jehovah's Witnesses have never sent out junk mail, spam or the like.

----------

If anyone is unsure about Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs, why not just ask them next they are your door or visit the site below?

Fred Smith makes a good point, whereas Lix tells plain lies. It is not Jehovah's Witnesses intention to drive people nuts, simply to share a message. If you don't want to hear that message just say: "I'm not interested" and politely close the door. It's not hard and they will not be offended.

------------

I don't think that this can be compared to a brothel. Yahoo Answers deals with many topics besides religion so a Witness is perfectly entited to come on here and ask questions or provide answers on any number of subjects. While using Yahoo Answers, they will no doubt look at the R&S category at some point because their lives centre around the Bible as you know. On looking at the questions, they may feel that they have a valid point to make as a result of their years of Bible study. They may also notice misconceptions about the Bible or their own faith which they feel they would want to correct and offer a comment.

The Governing Body would never say "You must not log onto Yahoo Answers" but they would, quite rightly, encourage discretion to be used in visiting such sites due to the time that can wasted debating trivialities and the danger of coming into contact with people who are more interested in eroding faith than they are upbuilding someone's spiritual well-being.

If some witnesses want to use Yahoo Answers and frequent the R&S category, they would no doubt do so with proper caution. Some may choose to avoid it all together which is understandable.

-----------

Thanks, Bambi! ;)

Well just because we study the bible doesn't mean we know everything from the top of our heads. If a JW visited you and didn't know the answer, well... how is that weird? We're not walking bibles. It is not encouraged to answer a question, if we don't know exactly how to explain it. Wouldn't you rather hear a good explanation, then a half answered explanation? I would think so. Though I will agree with you that, sometimes as humans we tend to me irresponsible. And sometimes we are unorganized. There could be many reason why they haven't gone back. Perhaps they misplaced your address, we do go door to door alot and have many addresses to visit, or this person still hasn't gotten a chance to gather up the information you requested. But it has nothing to do with if they can answer you or not. I hope they come back, if you truly were interested in knowing the answer to your question. But this is our command to go preaching (Mat. 28:19,20), so if they come back or not, I cant guarantee, but I do know, a JW will come knocking at your door again, and if you are interested in knowing the answer, hopefully they will be ready to give it.

I had to look and make sure what site this was and I saw that it is "Religion & Spirituality" and couldn't help but think, there go those Christians judging again. My Bible says, "Judge not and you will not be judge." but some Christians just can't help themselves. Let's say the JW's are the worst of the worst, well, I think Christ said, "Ye who is without sin..." you know the rest. So, I don't know about the rest of you, but I've got a pretty big stone in my hand right now, what do you say??? Want to stone the sob?

Ditto; Iron_serpent91.

And no, I don't think this forum is the epitomy of evil.

And my hsbnd is not a Witness,
I'm exposed to worldly things, all the time. All the time.

As w/ anything in or on this planet;
we guard ourselves & our spirtiually.
I don't have to have contact w/ rude & or nasty ppl.
Just like in my life @ work, school, etc...or on the 'puter.
"Be cautious as serpents" ring a bell?

EDIT: iron brother,
ur answer was so clear & succint I had to give u the "ditto."

Louise H,
W/ love sister....this is in no way even remotely close
to resembling a brothel; I was a stripper for years...
that is close to a brothel.
I'm sitting here in the comfort of my own home,
surrounded by my Bible & other study aids.
Hence, my theocratic library....NOTHING like a brothel.
Where is the sex in exchange for $$ going on?
Or n/ething remotely close?
much love,
Bambi Abi'Jah

What a bunch of clap trap coming from people who are full of it,like Lix and the questioner who is still travelling in outer space and years behind the know.Since this computer era began the organization in their world wide work of expanding the preaching and publishing bible literature were leaders in the field of computer programing, etc.there are many details in that I wont expand on here. This forum is only one of many that can and will be used and so get used to it.Jesus said he could use the rocks (stones)to do the preaching if he had to. And Lix get your head out of your hate thing ,as many know you are babbling lies about the typewriters and fax machines. How do you think the billions of various types of Bible aids get printed and guess who are leaders in these fields too.

I think the phrase is "in the world but not of it". JW's are people and have as much right to participate here as anyone else.

Is this forum the epitome of everything evil? I don't see why.

This is a genuine answer. I'm not having a go, I'm just trying to get my head round why you asked this question.

If you believe the Bible, then aren't you supposed to love people, including Jehovah's Witnesses?

If you believe the Bible, then aren't you supposed to be non-judgmental?

If you don't believe the Bible, then shouldn't you not care if JW's are inconsistent?

And, Bible is capitalized if you're talking about the Bible.

As I was getting my self ready to come to work, I was asking my self "if I go into Y A and if I find a stupid question should I just answer or should I tell them " A stupid question deserves a stupid answer..... you know the answer"

I don't want to be rude so please if you are so concerned about the JW's then go to one of the meetings and first find out exactly what they are all about before you post any more questions. Have a bless day!

Jesus Christ was also criticized for associating with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus preached to them so they could receive spiritual healing. So Jesus helps such ones to attain a healthy relationship with God. Thus Jesus’ exercise of mercy toward these sinners is not a condoning of their sins but an expression of the same tender feelings he manifested toward the physically ill. (Luke 5:27-32)

just cause one does something doesn't mean all do.

great example is the Amish. some live strictly with horse and buggy, some have cars, some don't have a tv or phone where others do.

this would be like asking why some Christians pray on their knees, some stand and others spread their arms out.

each division has divisions. realize who creates divisions and then you realize some truth.
