my guesses:

one you need a tuneup if not done within the past 50k miles or so... and fuel filter/air filter if not in last 30k miles

but my guess is you have a coil pack that's breaking down.... Most of the expeditions right around that year went from plug wires to coil on plugs.. the coils break down and cause what you are describing...

take it to a shop that specializes in check engine lights (preferably a Ford motor co dealership) as most of the specialty shops have the tools to diagnose it to the coil pack that is causing the issue.. if not, autozone and such sell the coil packs but 8 at $50/piece can start to get outragous

you need to run the codes first sounds like you have fuel prob dirty filter, pick-up sock on the fuel pump, loose wire to the fuel pump, the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay. the more gas you try to give it the more its going to fight you Also check your battery terminals if they are loose or really dirty it wont run right Take it to a good shop and let them diagnos it too many thing could be wrong with it

It might pay to put it on a scope. This could be plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, fuel pump, clogged exhaust, etc. Don't throw parts at it, diagnose.
