Hi there, Agnes.

When it's pertinent, I do make a point of mentioning atheism, because it would be disingenuous if I didn't. I've been an atheist for over fifty years and am fully capable of understanding my own motivations. Personally, I do think God exists in the subjective experience of believers, but does not exist in objective (physical) reality. This time, Sweetheart, I have to say I disagree with your husband.

Do you ever watch the PBS sitcom "Keeping Up Appearances"? While I was reading your question, I was suddenly reminded of Hyacinth, whose sister, Violet, "lives in the country and has room for a pony." If you were to give your husband a name, the similarity would be even more striking. "My husband, John, who has a bachelors degree in Sociology says..."

Did I make you laugh? ...hope so, Hon.

Rebellion is a factor, but the delusional qualities of the adolescents' parental specimens can be of tremendous help too lol > My husband who has a bachelors degree in Sociology says that alot of atheists are atheist because their parents were Christians and they wanted to rebel by being atheist.

Occasionally, I'll answer a question concerning a Bible passage, or I'll help someone with information they are seeking. Real help, mind you, not the smart alecky kind.

I end my posts in those instances with "atheist" as a type of experiment. Usually, I will receive numerous thumb's down when I do this, even if my information is excellent and the only correct answer on the board.

Occasionally, the asker will reward me for my efforts by giving me best answer, and apologizing for the way the td's flew at me, and for the rudeness of the other answerers. It's a fun way to weed out the real Christians from the hypocrites.

Oh WOW, a bachelors degree!

They end it with "atheist" so people know where they're coming from. Usually Christians post the word Christian ten times in their question, Atheists just sum it up at the end. If we knew what we believed in was wrong, we wouldn't believe in it, hon.

Who cares what your husband has to say, hon, regardless of his degree.. seriously, not to downplay education, but a bachelors hardly makes him the authority. Degrees are a dime a dozen these days. Big whoop.

I put it there so people can know that the answer they just read was not written by a Christian but by a godless heathen. It's that simple.

Easy to see your 'husband' is as smart as your 'god' is.
Only a bachelors in sociology, A?
Maybe if he'd done psychology he mighta had a clue.

Speaking for myself only, I add it as a courtesy to show the direction from which I'm coming so that I won't ever be mixed up with a Theist.
Of course fundies don't need to add 'fundie' cos it’s usually quite evident in what y'all say and how y'all say it.

Xians are "trying to convince themselves that what they believe in is right by always repeating it to themselves because they know what they believe in is wrong is that true hon?"
You got it one, hon. :)

You know what...? I'm NOT an Atheist, but....

Why in hell don't you just let them be!? What business is it of yours if "they're trying to convince themselves"?

Let them believe what they want, and YOU believe whatever the hell you want.

I am soooo damn tired of trolls coming here and starting crap with people. It's NOT cute anymore!

Grow up! Get a life! And come back when you have something better to say!

OH! - And to the Atheists here... You don't owe her any explanation! If I were you, I'd tell her to shut her pie-hole!

I guess they do this for the same reason every other statement or question you ask mentions your husbands so-called sociology degree. Makes me wonder if you have a brain that works on its own since you have to go to your husband for advice so frequently about something as simple as YA.

First of all, hardly all atheists do this. Second of all, the second text box is for listing "sources", and because of the nature of some questions here (particularly the ones that ask for an opinion), stating one's religious stance would suffice as a "source" relevant to the question.

I've noticed that sociologists in general like to over-interpret the most mundane things. That's usually what drove them to major in sociology in the first place.

In the same argument, Christians also repeat their beliefs and dogma to themselves, and to others when they witness. That doesn't make them any more wrong than an atheist thinks he or she is wrong; it just helps them to explain their point of belief.
