I have three: The snowy owl (because they are beautiful and I had a very intense dream about one when I was younger), the dragonfly (I have always been fascinated with them) and the cat (I have had many close relationships with cats over the years. They have personalities very similar to humans.)
I also like wolves, hummingbirds, herons, orca whales and deer.

Just for semantic/definition purposes, your favorite animal isn't necessarily your totem, or your familiar for that matter. Some people have totems that terrify them as a way of teaching them certain lessons.
Your totem is a spiritual animal; I believe totems are archetypal beings that represent an entire species, similar to the Animal Master of Joseph Campbell's research, as opposed to a single spirit.

But these are my uses of the terms; YMMV.
Wolf is my primary totem, though I also work with Fox, Pig, Chicken, Bear, Cat, and many others. Animal magic is the center of my practice and path. My last familiar was an ocellated skink (a type of lizard) named Tatzelwurm; I worked with her for about two years before she passed away.

I'm not a witch(though I was one before I understood that it's not exactly what I needed) and never was a pagan but I was always fascinated with big cats(lynx, bobcat, tiger..you know) and as a familiar I would say a domestic lynx(has a personality of cat).

I am a Cat person and I like Wolves.Cats are independent and think you are their pet. They think you must pet them when they want love, but let you know they are not in the mood.

My favorite animal is the homo sapiens sapiens.
Edit: Whatever, it is. As a Biologist, I don't think there is a singular animal that is more fascinating.
