Once global warming becomes so out of control that it is economically feasible to do something about it, it will be too late. Nations like the US, China, Russia, ect will never agree on economic restrictions and renewable energy. We live in a society that spends more on war than developing new energy technology. What are our chances?

I'm aware of virtually every point deniers bring up and why they are wrong, so I don't need to hear them again.

2007-08-17 11:27:26 · update #1

I simply don't want to hear the denier opinions because somethings you just know to be true, this is one of them.

We know cigarettes cause cancer- yet there is a denier movement

We know evolution happened and continues to happen- yet there is a denier movement

We know human activity increases greenhouse gas concentration which changes the climate- yet there is a denier movement

understand?

I will listen to a skeptic, who understands we effect the climate, but thinks other factors may be involved, i will not listen to a denier, who simply labels the current warming as just part of the cycle and claims humans have no impact on climate at all, because that is known to be false.

haha
all i said was "i don't need to hear the again" i never said they couldn't answer.

some of the posters don't seem to understand that a theory can also be a fact:

prime example of course is gravity

Our chances are not half bad. Don't judge by the deniers on Yahoo answers.

Most of the people in the world think this is a serious problem we need to do something about.

Wow. did you just see what you said?

"I will listen to a skeptic, who understands we effect the climate, but thinks other factors may be involved, i will not listen to a denier, who simply labels the current warming as just part of the cycle and claims humans have no impact on climate at all, because that is known to be false."

So basically, you will listen to someone who YOU only think is right?

1) Through war, we are developing new technology. (increasing efficiency lowers cost, so this includes the energy spectrum)

2) All of those "we know" comments you made, we dont know them. they are theories, not 100% fact.

3) How is man made golbal warming going to get out of control if we cant prove it?

I know most theories cant be proven, but i do know that some theories have more reliability than others. We can not make these assumptions if we can not understand this planet.

No. People who support the global warming theory have acknowledged that scare tactics are part of their plan to support their cause.

Scientist’s need “to get some broader based
support, to capture the public’s imagination...that,
of course, entails getting loads of media coverage.
So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make
simplified dramatic statements, and make little
mention of any doubts we may have…each of us
has to decide what the right balance is between
being effective and being honest.

the Institute for International Studie, and Professor by Courtesy in the Department of Civil
and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, Discover Magazine.

Q. There's a lot of debate right now over the best way to communicate about global warming and get people motivated. Do you scare people or give them hope? What's the right mix?

A. I think the answer to that depends on where your audience's head is. In the United States of America, unfortunately we still live in a bubble of unreality. And the Category 5 denial is an enormous obstacle to any discussion of solutions. Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis.

Your use of the term "denier" is sick. You are implying that we are just as bad as those who deny the Holocaust. When people admit to exaggerating the facts, it makes up sceptical. What is exaggeration and what is real?

No, because global warming is not the looming disaster that alarmists would have you believe. The best estimates are that global temperatures will increase about 3 degrees C from current levels and that sea levels will rise a couple of feet (at most). Now this will be inconvenient for some people, and there will certainly need to be adjustments made by many of us, but it is not going to be the end of the world.

You sound just like one of those who only want to hear what they want to hear, typically the global warming freaks.
Can you tell me why this summer was colder than the last 6 or 7 summers? Do you have an answer to this?

With your attitude, that you only want to hear what you want to hear, you are the one who is doomed, because pretty soon nobody will listen to you anymore.

For your information, the recent global warming effect was caused by increased solar activity (everybody knows that meanwhile), yes, there is some man made global warming too, but it is so minute it isn't even anything to worry about.

Cheer up, enjoy life and don't let any global warming hardliners push you into a state of depression.

Global warming has been a money maker for some, collecting it from the gullible, but it is over now, global warming isn't happening, because the sun finally calmed down.

Global warming is a natural force beyond our control. One thousand years ago, the Earth was several degrees WARMER than it is today and the Vikings farmed Greenland because the glaciers had retreated. Obviously, it did not doom us.

What dooms humans is global cooling. When it gets cold, we cannot grow food and we die. Right around the beginning of the 1800s, there was a mini Ice Age. The resulting mass starvation was one reason for the French Revolution and other turmoil. There was a 'year without a summer' and all hell broke loose.

Enjoy the warming. Glaciers crush life.

Meanwhile, President Bush has moved this nation onto the path of clean, renewable Hydrogen energy generated by wind, geothermal, solar and nuclear sources. It has nothing to do with warming but it is the key to getting free of Middle East oil.

[NOTE: 'we cannot control' is not equivalent to 'we have no effect'. Heck, TERMITES AND COWS have an 'effect' (termites create a lot of CO2). The scientific fact is that if humans ceased to exist tomorrow morning, global warming would continue just as it has for the past 10,000 years. NOTHING WE DO CAN STOP IT, nor should we attempt to recreate the horrible suffering of the early 1800s when the Earth did cool slightly. The abundance of life on this Earth is a result of the Greenhouse Effect driving back the crushing glaciers, and Carbon Dioxide is the primary nutrient of our ecosystem.]

I don't think anyone can answer this question because it's too simple a question compared to the complexity of the answer. I agree with the other posters on most of the points they have raised. There is natural cycle that is beyond our control. The rate we are going, our chances are slim, but how could I or anyone give you any numbers that would have any worthwhile meaning? I'm actually more worried about being hit by a large meteor, and no one else seems to worry about that, like it won't happen to us. So I guess everyone has their worries on which they focus.

We don't need to develop new energy technology. There is already an answer to global warming. Nuclear power. If global warming is as bad as they say, we can't wait for new technology. That leaves only one answer. Are you willing to do what it takes or is your real goal economic restrictions?

"I'm aware of virtually every point deniers bring up and why they are wrong, so I don't need to hear them again."

We are also aware of every point YOU bring up about global warming each time YOU answer a question. If you don't want to hear differing opinions don't post a question to answers, go to some forum where everyone will agree with you. Your question asks "are we doomed" so of course someone with the denier opinion would answer no, and cite the reasons they believe global warming to be false.

Edit: Who crapped in your cornflakes this morning? I'm not saying you're wrong I'm just telling you it's stupid to come on answers and expect people to answer your questions a certain way. Understand?
