Shaykhs and gurus make moral stands without claiming that if you don't follow their beliefs you will burn in the flames of hell for all eternity. Neither do they make millions from their teachings. Why can't the televangelists take a leaf out of their book?

Televangelists are operating a lucrative business, what is to make them change as long as the money keeps rolling in.
They are businessmen, first and spiritual second.
They have not learned what Jesus (PBUH) meant when he said, "Be in the world but not of it."

Jesus (PBUH), kicked the moneychangers out of the Temple, did he not?

There is a lot of money to be made in the televangelist field. I am not sure I could resist the temptation if I had the charisma it takes to make a lot of money deceiving people. I admire Marjoe Gortnor. He was unable to stop deceiving people until he made his documentary Morjoe and exposing himself was the only way he could stop. when he went public and admitted to deceiving people he was able to move on and be more honest.

Actually, a LOT of sheikhs, and some "gurus" (usually not the legitimate ones) DO make those claims, and do denigrate people of other faiths. But televangelism is a business, and will continue to be while people give them money, like any other business.
