Can this be done over an old wood exterior or do I have to pull every wood board off the outside of the house to do so?

Is stucco-ing expensive?

Is there anyway to add color to stucco?

I would worry about moisture being held against the wood and inviting in termites. Perhaps a moisture barrier would go up first, then the mesh which holds the scratch coat.....or base coat. This is uncolored.

Then the color coat goes on. Color is added with dry powder while mixing. The stucco companies carry about two dozen common colors but you can design your own special color. You'd better save the recipe and maybe even the dry powder mix least you ever need to make repairs. If you use a common color, packages of dry colored stucco is available and you can mix up your own patching material.....very handy.

Without knowing what all your stucco job would entail and contractor prices in your area, I can't speak to cost. I do know to put a new coat on an existing stucco house wasn't bad at all...still over $1,000 but not bank breaking. (yes, after 20 or so years the stucco will develop minute cracks or nicks and missing pieces so needs to be redone.)

Stucco can be added to the old wood exterior. Color can be add. - It isnt THAT expensive - it also helps insulate your house. Best way -PAY someone who knows what they are doing. And you can stay in the house - dont have to move out while it's being done.

Best advice - talk to others who have had it done- ask who they used, their feelings about the people/company who did it.
If you dont know anyone - check the yellow pages - make many phone calls and have people come give you a quote/estimate on the cost.
