"Religion pretty much a memory?" It will not get that bad because God says in His Word that He will always have His elect ( chosen ones ) that are sanctified, set apart. The Holy Spirit has revealed that a great "falling away" or personal apostasy will occur before He returns ( 1 Timothy 4:1 ). There will be a falling away on a Grander scale of people abandoning their personal faith in Christ and a complete rejection of Biblical truths they once adhered to ( 2 Thess.2:3; Jude 3-4 ). Scripture says that many will fall away because they fail to love the truth ( 2 Thess.2:10 ) and resist sins because their self-love is greater ( 2 Timothy 3:2-3 ). In these last days a Christian MUST be prepared to face an overwhelming amount of ungodliness by staying in God's Word and wearing the Armour of Christ at all times, while having a true desire within your heart to do God's will at all cost! If you are careless, you will be in the mass numbers of people who will be deceived and slip away from God's Salvation that once held you ( Hebrews 2:1 ).

Why do atheists believe that atheism will replace all else on earth?

Even if American become completly atheist, what about the rest of the world. There are billions of people in this world and perhaps only a million of them are completly lacking a religion AND belief in G-d.

Religion has been around since the dawn of man and it hasn't become less of player in modren times. There have always been atheists throughout history, regardless if people admit to it or not. Obviously their beliefs were not enough to turn the tide of religion.

Communism is based on the idea of all are equal and that no religion/faith is needed. That faith is just a self delusion. Look how well that worked out in Russian. The churches were destroyed, people could not practice their faith under penalty of prison or even death.

Even after all the horrow of the USSR, the religious stayed underground and are now starting over again.

Shows more of the strength of religion then of atheism.

I don't believe in the rapture - I'm not Christian. I don't think either option is viable.

Religion persists because it creates a survival advantage in those who believe.

Darwin would say the logic of Atheism is irrelevant if Believers have more offspring.

The number of believers world wide is rising. Atheism in not rising in Western civilization, because it's current form damages procreativiity. Atheism my be rising among Anglos, but the number of Anglos is shrinking.
Western society is being infused with third worlders whose Religious beliefs promote high birth rates.

So those smug little academic pin heads, who espouse, but do not understand Darwin, are profoundly deluded regards the demise of religion. (and about pretty much every thing else too)

Tough call though who wins between the Christians and Muslims. (Judaism does not convert so it's handicapped)

Probably the Christians because Islam's elevated aggression tends to make them fight each other.

Since, there will never be a time when religion will be "pretty much a memory" or disappear.

Because, even if there are laws in place in an attempt "stamp out" religion. People will secretly practice their faith and beliefs. Don't believe me, just ask any of the Jews who lived in Russia; when it was a Communist nation.

The answer would have to be, the rapture.

if we are to believe atheistic philosophy that religion is somewhat a delusion of person's to explain the unexplainable or to belive Marx when he said that it is the opium of the people then rapture, supposedly it would happen, would come first before the death of religion.

The quest of humanity to explain the unexplainable would never end and so a notion or idea of a Supreme Being would persist though in a possible new form.

History time and time again has seen the rise and decline of world religions - and the only constant is man's belief in the Supreme.

Matt 13:28-30, Jesus said to let the tares and wheat grow together until the harvest "and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers Gather ye together FIRST THE TARES, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn". What does that do to the rapture the wheat FIRST theory? Ezekiel 13:18-23, foretold of the rapture theory. It says for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread (for gain/money) they hunt souls to make them fly/rapture. Says they make sad the hearts of the righteous. They think loved ones will be LEFT BEHIND to be tormented.Luke 17:34-37, the ones "taken" are taken by falsehood as with those taken by the flood in Noah's time. Verse 37, "Where, Lord?" Taken where? Jesus said, "Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together". The church body taken as prey by a vulture.

Jews and Muslims don't believe in the rapture. I am waiting for the day when there are atheist televengalists with scary hair, gold rings and chains and with heavy southern accents begging for money for there next big mansion.

I'd say neither. I think we will continue the way we are. Situations will get worse as the world gets more godless, but there will always be Christians and I suppose there will always be believing Jews and Muslims until the end.

I think it would be the one that has the best intentions of the heart. To me it doesn't matter what religion (I am Muslim) a person claims it is the intention with Glory to God, Allah the guarantees a place in line.

I'll put my money on the latter- an age when religion is a distant memory, unless of course, millions of people get abducted by aliens.
